I'm not complaining, you need to make money, and ads are the easiest way.
My problem is that the ad area is almost 1/4th of my internet window's width. A lot of dead space between the ad and the forum. Everyone knows how to tune out the ads, but with them taking up so much space, I now just have that left side of the window off the screen. The first option i can see on my toolbar now is "help." That's how far over off screen it is.
If they can't be moved to the right, maybe the top and bottom? At least reduce the border between the edge of the window to the ad, and the ad to the forum. That'd be my suggestion.

Change nothing, I have said over and over again, I hated the adds and paid for them to go away. The content here is worth a 1 time fee of $10.

Fuck the cry babies, they don't like adds I hear EverQuest II Players has a great forum they can go read and hang out on.

mostly every "fanpage" has ads. i dont see the problem. and mostly all of them offer you to get adfree by paying a small fee. things cost, you know paying tickets to vegas and all that good shit besides the costs every month at like 190$ somewhere lfg mentioned. more entertainment? more contests? eq2flames should "mellow"?(?,dunno right word:p) than acceppt it as it is. i agree, the content is worth a one time fee. fuck the cry babies.
nuff said =p excelsior!

TANSTAAFL

There's nothing wrong with a fee to turn off ads. It's not even a subscription!! They're lucky you didn't go the other way around, and make the basic forums free and all other services require a fee!

There's a subset that you're never going to make happy. It's all well and fine to call LFG a sellout, sure, but the whiners aren't the ones spending $5k a year to keep the site running. Recoup your costs, and let 'em whine.

I don't mind the ads and $10 bucks is a pittance to pay to get them turned off. But since you asked for ideas...

My first thought is perhaps people wouldnt mind the ads if they were more related to gaming. In line with this thinking I could see ads for free trials in other games, special offers or perhaps pc/console hardware. Another idea to facilitate this would be selling the ad space privately to companies. or How about getting involved with some affiliate programs? From what I know affiliate programs provide links to web sites and then payments or reciprocal advertising is provided in exchange for promoting the other web site.

Just my thoughts.

I'm looking for another advertising solution. The one we have now is crap. Hopefully I can find one that will be all graphic panels more relevant to this site. I do not have the time to personally market and sell ad space on this site on a per panel basis.

/shrug OK, I'm certainly no advertising guru, those were just some ideas I had off the top of my head. I have alot of friends in marketing and advertising though, I'll check with a few of them next week and see if they have any viable alternatives you can consider.

Nice, ty. I cant stand those adds that actually take over like that.
The Agilous adds are better than the google-ish adds imo. Either way they arent worth complaining about with how they are now.

I also was seeing them get bigger in font size every time I refeshed, up to the point there was only 1 ad per set of links. Not sure if that was intended or a problem. Its back to 5 now.

I think the basic problem is that Adbrite sucks.

It can't suck nearly as bad as adsense.
