Re: EQ2 FF In-Game Tournament
Also, for those who don't like what was suggested for this event, how about suggesting something different that is still feasible.
Ground rule: It has to be an event ANY EQ2 player has a chance at winning as part of a team, in a group event where 4 to 6 groups will be competing against each other and against a timer, to either kill the most, do something the fastest, get through an instance the fastest, etc.
Suggest something feasible, something that would be fun, something that could be implemented so any group of players who are reasonably proficient in EQ2 could have a chance at winning, and who knows, maybe they'll change it.
Now, I'm not saying that player skill shouldn't play a part in this, it should. But something requiring a coordinated raid strategy won't work, because at least half the people attending FF don't raid.
Here's how this will come down. They'll have rectangular folding tables with maybe three comps on each, and two of those tables side by side. They'll also have beteen 4 to 6 paired rows of tables like that, assuming this is done like the event at FF 2005 was done in Vegas.
Now, given that number of machines, there will be a big long line of people who want to compete in this, so you have to limit the event to 10 minutes max.
As a team event, obviously the top team in each round will move to the finals.
But if you think the "owning Darklight Woods" idea sucks, you need to suggest a better one, asap. It can involve skill and require teamwork, that would make it much more fun.
So please suggest GROUP events that won't take more than ten minutes each, and involve content that people who've never played a toon past level 40 would also have a chance at winning.
I personally think an event where the first group to get to the end of a long instance (pick a linear instance up to level 40) with the full group alive at the end of the instance would win. Like a race, with training allowed, but you need all the people alive at the end to win, but with rezzing allowed on the way.
If you think my idea sucks, come up with a better one, please.

Also, please be as detailed and specific as possible in your suggested game plan for this event.
Best feasible plan(s) wins a title on this site!

Re: EQ2 FF In-Game Tournament
the Nest thing was awsome, well though they fucked it up and canceled it. As far as i know though we had the top time of under 15mins closer to 12 mins i beleive. But the server they were running it on was screwed up with internal pvp flag testing and some shit. That and the nest zone was fairly screwed also.
Also i would not expect anything in the way of rewards. Brenlo gave everything to the EQ1 people both watching and playing the pvp tourney. While the people watching and participating in the EQ2 event, before they decided to cancel it got nothing. In the End the 100 people who signed up got the "Champion of the Nest" title..... Eq1 people were getting all kinds of booby prizes, bags, shirts, and so on....

Imo the best thing to do would create an instance that had wave after wave of mobs. Have it start of from easy to hard and add mroe types of mobs and more of them each wave. Cap it at something like 20 waves tops and record the times/waves people get to. Maybe have the last wave or 2 x2 mobs or something.
I would make the last 2 waves nearly impossible to the point where more hten likely no1 will beat them. So if anyone does then they really deserve it.
Also they would have to turn off the /yell system with out of combat regen since that was the trick to our quick run of the nest.

I bet Brenlo the Benevolent is gonna hook up the EQ2 contestants big time this time! I'll take bets on it!

I like this... maybe an instance of say Fallen Gate, the fastest team (say, teams of 4-6 lvl 25ish toons, professions of your choice) to reach that last circular room at the very bottom and kill the main NPC there (Nerial T'Rek?) and have all team members alive wins. If team members die during the last battle, the clock stops when all dead team members are rezzed.

Re: EQ2 FF In-Game Tournament
Honestly, if this thing is managed as well as last year's EQ2 tourney, then it won't matter what it is... it will be ill planned, take too long to set up, and Fires of Heaven will ask for a redo.
Then the server will crash, and we ALL get the title.
I bear my Champion of the Nest tag with pride.

You are joking right? The last encounter our first run didnt spawn. That run we actually did faster then our 2nd run by about 30-45seconds. The 2nd run everything went fine and we still ended up faster then everyone else. Like i said though the entire zone was messed up. Some groups had trouble with people not being able to heal each other. The elevator was stuck up and or down to other groups.
A lot of the teams had redo's because of all the shit. Which is why they canceled it.

Re: EQ2 FF In-Game Tournament
Yeah, but FoH was the one that made people laugh :P
Anyways, thanks for verifying the point of my post, which was in fact that last year's tournament was a clusterfuck.
