EoF previews and Mayong

I'm getting seriously tired of the number of reviews going around with stuff about how Mayong Mistmoore was never in EQ1 and how cool it is that he's a raid mob in EQ2. I can only guess it was something said on the press preview tour from the amount it's been repeated around the web.

If Mayong wasn't in EQ1, remind me again who this is:

I suspect that some of our EQ2 reviews simply forgot that EQ1 kept going after Nov 2004.

In fairness...how often was he around? I played for 4 years and didn't see him once and I absolutely LOVED that zone.

But yeah...I'm tired of that too...*shifty*

He was the final boss of the Depths of Darkhollow expansion, so not seeing him was probably understandable (he was in the Demiplane of Blood, not Mistmoore). Only a few guilds per server have seen him yet.

Was pretty cool plotline though at the end. When you kill Mayong for the first time he does a worldwide emote and ascends to godhood, which leads to the corruption of Ayonae Ro and the whole Prophecy of Ro expansion.

That does explain why I didn't see him, but I do remember (and they may have been rumors) that he would show up Dev controlled every now and then as a GM event in Mistmoore.

Yep - he did that too. Was pretty rare though, kinda like finding a GM.

Ah, how I miss story line progression that wasn't written in crayon by a 12 year old. Only thing that actually made EQ1 interesting was the fact that everything tied together into one relevant storyline. EQ2 is all over the fucking place, where the hell is the asian influence coming from in FD? I think Mr. Sony got pissed that everything was Americanized in the character and NPC models and called someone racist. It really makes no fucking sense.

It has been so long now I don't remember the exact details concering Mayong. Originally he was a NPC but due to pathing in Mistmoore I believe it was along with other issues he was removed fairly shortly thereafter. Some time later for some reason or another they decided to bring him back except as a GM-controlled mob. Every now and then he would show up and have a little fun, but generally speaking very very few people in game ever actually saw him.

Depths of Darkhollow? What expansion is that? I think most people left before or shortly after Omens of War, I know I did. And I can say I never saw him and I loved Mistmoore, so much so that when I started EQ2 and saw the MM server it was a factor in my guild's choice for choosing it.

Nice, I played EQ1 from it's release all the way till eq2 came out. Before the expantion you talked about Mayong was always just refered to as the head vampire. Whenever he was in game it was because of a GM event. But he was always very much a part of the storyline throughout many expantions in eq1.
