Surprises me that some of you nublets aren't savvy to the SOE downtime formula. But I'll pass it on I suppose.

Take the estimated downtime, then multiply by 3 if it's just a standard game update. So in this case, that would be 12 hours.

However, knowledge of further modifiers does factor in on this one.

If it's something brand-new, like this SoEmote thing, double the x3 figure. Which brings us to 24 hours.

If it is something completely unimportant to actual gameplay, add 10 hours to the final figure. For a total of 34 hours on this one.

Also, SoEmote won't work correctly. But it will be repaired approximately 3 months from now during a standard x3 downtime.

    Yes, if they wish.

The SOE Web Installer plug-in activates hooks into Flash (their web-based games use it extensively), which allows access to both microphone and camera controls. Any SOE game that uses the new emote system also installs the plug-in (non-removable). So, yeah--not so much a backdoor as opening the front door all the way. Ya'll opened that door a long time ago.

Both can be disabled/modified by going to the Flash settings UI. It will probably disable SoeEmote (or whatever it is) by doing so and possibly prevent other SOE software from functioning properly. I don't know because I uninstalled it all (well, manually removed as much as I could).

On a similar note, Blizzard has had, for some time, language in their World of Warcraft EULA that specifically allows Facebook to access all data shared via the in-game voice communications servers. It was easy to opt out--simply use Ventrilo or some non-Blizzard software and don't use the in-game voice software. Facebook now has a deal with SOE.

While I'm not sure if SOE has such language in their EULA--they don't really need it. They now have the game software itself doing the work (not just parallel processes), and you all agreed to allowing them to do what they wish in that regard.

Yeah I've tried to explain that to people and they just 'trust' SOE won't ever do that. rotflmfao

I got a 'warning' about talking about it on the public forums. lol

While humorous, it loses something considering all you need is a single sticky note. What you pictured is more of an emergency date kit. Just in case she tries to get away.
It's only weird if it doesn't work.
