Ya, I have to be close and see the person's face when they're talking but I understand about half of what most people say, provided they don't have a speech impediment and speak English as their first language. What you end up realizing, in my situation, is that you only need to get 1 to 3 words per sentence to understand what a person is saying and have a conversation with them, most words are filler and unnecessary.

When I can't understand what a person is saying, I usually just smile and nod. Most people prefer to talk more than they listen, and often just think I'm a good listener. A good amount of people I talk to never catch on that I can't hear them, I usually don't say anything unless someone is trying to ask me questions and I can't understand what they are asking.

Heh, being 85% deaf in both ears since I was born, I can definitely relate to that. You become a master "listener" pretty dern quick. It actually comes in real handy sometimes. So much useless noise in the world.

Ok, more stuff from last night:

Lyndro is cool as hell, just a super nice guy. The reason he hasn't authored anything major since DMP is because he got promoted and supervises other dev's work now, he's a lead.

Both Cat and Julie the Intern were wearing little black dress deals at the cocktail party at Voodoo. I'm convinced they were the most beautiful women in Nevada last night. Julie is about 5'11" and could easily get a job as a supermodel, but the best thing about her is she is a super nice person, just as cute and bubbly as I'd expected. Cat is just rawr lol. Anyway, please don't get the wrong idea by me saying that, I'm not a perv and would never consider hitting on them or even thinking inappropriate thoughts about them. I'm just sharing the bottom line for the dudes on this site that didn't get a chance to come to Fan Faire.

I also met a ton of other people, including some guys from Onyx on Nagafen who were totally cool. I also met Pantz, Manyak, Mania (rawr also, but in a respectable way since she was with her boyfriend). The problem was there was so many people, I'm sure I saw a ton of people who I've talked to in game or on this site, but I didn't recognize the vast majority of players, since I'd never met them before and it was dark and hard to read the names on people's badges.

I had a black VIP wristband which meant my drinks were free and I got to hang out in the VIP area. The Voodoo lounge on the roof of the Rio was packed with players, and I just had a killer time. It was a great party and everyone was having a great time.

There is a full day of sessions planned today, I'm going to hang out in the panels related to raiding with my comp and attempt to take notes. I'll try and post anything I learn tonight.

I have a pretty bad case of tinnitus from 20 years of playing in rock bands. It masks high frequency sounds, like crickets. Certain electronic beeps sound like clicks if I even hear them at all.

The problem I have during conversations is when people unexpectedly turn their heads away while talking. Drives me nuts. I find myself saying "What?" more and more.
