On the whole, digital downloads are a bad idea, but in the case of EQ2, the only way you can be screwed out of your copy is if the game dies completely (which should be in about an hour according to the psychos on the In Testing Feedback forum).

Digital downloads are far more safe than store bought for not being screwed. I've heard of plenty of accounts of people buying stuff from the store and getting that the account key was already used, or not finding the key in the box at all. Not getting a key can't happen with a digital download.

Tended to happen more with WoW than EQ2 though.
