New Game Enhancement. They pared down the classes, changed the combat to require you to actually aim a crosshair at the enemy, and some other crap.

Don't let anyone fool you into thinking this was the death blow. The game sucked from launch.

While it wasn't the best game ever, it was still fun before NGE...

After NGE the only thing I did in that game was go to all the waypoints from the movies (which was fun for about a week)

Far more drastic; more drastic than playing EQ2 then suddenly finding yourself playing WoW. The linked article even only covers part of it. They completely changed the game. Used to be skill trees, went to set classes; if I recall, camera and combat was close to EQ2 style, they gave you a fixed cam and essentially made the game an FPS; the changes completely trivialized or out and out destroyed the investments of many a player.NGE by and large was the dumbest thing SOE ever did and sadly, references to it has made developers gun shy about needed changes to games.

Oh, I agree that it was very different, but it didn't kill the game, because the game wasn't that well done to begin with.

Heh, never said it was;that's part of why they did NGE in the first place.

I just find myself bothered that people keep using NGE for the sky is falling yet, not even LU13 was close to what NGE did. Is there a Godwin-like law for it? I see it almost every announced change for just about everything.

well they're reducing spells of basically every class i guess (not just defiler or healers) to 1/3 (maybe less) of the ones u have now. It could be good or whatever u feel about the change but it's a fact it's gonna be easier and will take less time to do things, hence u won't be required to be costantly thinking about what to cast/queue next and for melee classes they'll probably reduce CAs to just 2 dmg attacks + 1 attack with the combined debuffs that class had pre-RoK and 1 attack with the crowd control effects the class had before (snares/root etc). No matter how you try to look at it it's gonna be the *easy mode*, if that is going to be a good or a bad thing i'll let everyone to their opinions but u can't say u don't see any link with the NGE. Yes the NGE was a bigger and more traumatic event, but SOE is once again on the *good* way to get there in EQ2 aswell

are you two fucking stupid? the master strikes are 1 ability that used the same recast timer. SOE had it fucked up by making it all 1 different spell b/c in actuallity is was just 1 spell.

LFG this is NOT the way you want the game to go. SOE at this very time is meddling with parts of the combat system which are absolutely working perfectly. if they want to focus on something it is itemization and curve returns. this is already working perfectly and this makes no sense why they would change it.

does it not make sense that if you are trying as hard as you can, im talking concentrating 100% that you should be constantly busy with stuff to do? when you die should you not be penalized for dieing by not being able to be at full buffs for quite some time? all of these changes seem completely counter intuitive.

Wrong it's SOE....if something is working perfectly sooner or later they'll feel the need to nerf/bug it or rewrite it completely :p (sad but true)
