Default Tinkering!

I made this guide myself and posted it using the code my guild's forum uses...If a forum moderator want's to edit it for the code on this site then go for it...Otherwise I already put a freaking TON of effort into this and when I saw that this forum doesnt use the same code I was like...fuck it let them fix it lol....Anyway, I feel tinkering can be a very VERY useful asset to raiding and most people are on this forum to either bitch, flame, or talk about RAIDING sooo here ya go...

Within this guide I will attempt at my best ability to describe how to start and the processes of Tinkering knowledge. Also included in this guide will be several tips and tricks that allow you to easily gain skill points in a quick and easy manner.
If your using this guide from start to finish of being a Tinker then PLEASE MAKE SURE TO
READ IT ALL ESPECIALLY THE TIPS AND TRICKS SECTION BEFORE DOING YOUR FIRST ITEM COMBINE. Thanks =).

The Item Benefits of Tinkering
-------------------------------------
Here are some reasons why tinkering is a good thing. I may add more items to this list later but these are the items which are most provoking.

How to Start
-------------------------------------
Step 1:First of all you need to head out to Butcherblock and get the ability to raise your skill, remeber to bring about 10 Gold Pieces with you!

Step 2:Find These Tents

Step 3:Talk to Karsh Cogsworth & Accept Tinkering As Your Secondary Tradeskill

Step 4:Then goto next to Corianda Cogsworth & Buy Your Four Skills(Test Run, Monkeywith, Data Managment, & Overhaul) Buy atleast 5 or more recipe books so that you won't have to come back for a while.

The Process
-------------------------------------
Before you begin you must understand that you have four skills. Test Run, Monkeywith, Data Managment, & Overhaul - All of which need to be on your hotbar or have your ((K))nowledge book open on tradeskills and ready to press them while tinkering.
Click Here To View All Four Skills. (The Image was a little large)
Now, take notice two skills do not use power while the other two do.
-Data Management & Monkey With do not use any power and can be continuously used.
-Test Run & Overhaul do use power and can be used unless your out of power.
Now press N and see what the recipe requirements are for your first few items by right clicking and
examining them. (See Harvesting Section for Tips on collecting supplies).
Once you have enough resources to get some item making done then you can start.
Find a work bench!

Unlike crafting, Tinkering does not require that you counter effects during the making of an item. You can simply keep clicking the desired Tinkering Skill to get your item to the desired stage of development. Because Test Run & Overhaul require power I suggest repeat use of Data Management & Monkey With. Or, as I sometimes do you can start out pumping Test Run & Overhaul and then switch to Data Management & Monkey once you run out of power.
So begin now! Simply Click the Work Bench, Click to Hi-light the Recipe you would like to create, click create, and then begin using the Tinkering Skill as much as you see fit.

Harvesting
-------------------------------------
Finding the right supplies and enough of them in tinkering can be very time consuming if not done in an orderly manner. Here are various tips to speed up the resource gathering process.
-Focus on harvesting ore, especially Loams, Hard Metals, Soft Metals and Gems.
-If your level 66 Crafter level or higher ask me or another tinker to make you a overclocked device to harvest with.
-If level 50+ of either crafting or adventuring ask me or any other woodworker to make you a set of sandlewood tools.
-Trade rares you get during harvesting for LARGE ammounts of loam OR sell the rares and buy loam.

Tips & Tricks
-------------------------------------
Quickly Gaining Points
Tinkering skill points are based on the level of the item your making. They have no base in what level of the combine you get to. So in essence you can keep making "crude" level items and have the exact same skill point bonus as any other level of the item. The benefit of making crude is that in tinkering you have nothing happen to the item itself like you do with crafting in any primary crafting class(With the exception of Provisioner).
Thus making the item to the first level of combine ( Click Here to See ) and then clicking stop will save you ALOT of time while leveling up your skill because you won't have to spend the time getting to "pristine" level of the item every time. This however causes very very small problems with resources as making pristines in tinkering returns more of the resources you spent making the item. In most cases this makes no diffrence at all because the most used item while tinkering is loam, and that I can never recall being an item that would be returned during the creation of a tinkered item.

Probably would be better in the guide section.

Since I'm here anyway, one tip is to buy a "Simple Work Bench" to use inside your home, which limits items to the crude level. Thus you don't have to worry about pressing stop all the time.

Also, the picture of the Behavioral Modificatinator Stereopticon is outdated; the effect now reads "Sometimes a good knock in the head can make 'em forget you're even there!" which acts similar to the Illusionist's Phase spell.

Yeah pretty nice guide.

The way I grinded Tinkering was I always looked for the cheapest loams on the brooker when say I got to 100+. The loams are normally by far the most expensive resource (with metals being next) - and making grey recipes still gives you about a 25-35% success rate (from personal experience) so even at 300+ tinkering if T4 loams were more cost effective that is what I went with.

I would have to disagree with this. Crude only works if you make the stuff that has a cheap-ass byproduct like agate or topaz. Otherwise you are shooting yourself in the foot with the expensive raws.

If the ores are expensive on the broker go harvest your own. It's a nice relaxing time to kill an hour and you'll get a few rares.

Oh and as a starter make a new char and make sure it's aligned the same as your tink, and just harvest your ass off there. The nodes repop FAST and you can toss them into your shared bank.

I HATE trade skilling, but I really liked tinkering because of all the cool utilities that I can use (The FD item has saved me so much gold it's retarded) and the fact there is no vitality is a bonus.

Since they increased, a while ago, the rate of skill ups for blue/green con tinkering recipes and the level range for blue/green con it's no longer an issue. You can avoid using ores for your byproducts after T1 and not have to use them again until the end recipes, but by that time you'll be 320+/350.

Yah I guess that holds true. Back when I did it I just remember that there were certain "dead zones" where I didn't want to make greys and the white cons just gave me skill up after skill up (but I had to make the recipe to the end to gain the most ores back).

I think the main thing to be aware of is just market prices and how much time you want to put into it in a given night. If you want to do it over a long span, then you can play the market well and barely spend anything.
