Default Basics on taking damage

I have been looking round, but have not seen all the info I am after, so i figure I'd just up and ask.

I have been playing since launch, but have until reciently only played mages and healers. few weeks ago I rolled up a guardian, just to see what the game is like the way you guys all play it. Its fun, has its merits, and its drawbacks... all that stuff.

What I am trying to find though, is info on exactly what things like adding to my defense skill does, as opposed to adding to my parry skill. Things like that. What is the difference between parry as a skill and the parry portion of my avoidance? what is the difference between base/block/parry for avoidance, and what affect do they each have on my ability to take damage (or my ability to not take damage, as it were).

Do any of these things change based on the level of the mob, or whether the mob is solo, heroic or epic?

I could likely figure it out, eventually, but I figure it is common knowladge somewhere.

Default Re: Basics on taking damage

Parry - Whether you can get your sword in teh way of the mobs weapon before it twats you. Effected by "Parry" skill and is effected by +To hit bonuses the mob has and mob level.

Base Avoidance - How fast you get your fat Guardian ass out of the mobs way. Effected by Defense skills and Agility level, is effected by +To hit bonuses and mob level.

Block - Whether you can put that big chunck of wood and metal inbetween you and the mob. Effected by the "Protection" value of your shield, is NOT effected by mob +To Hit bonuses but is effected by level.

Riposte - The mob is off balance after you parry so some parries MAY turn into ripostes.

+Parry Adorns - Effect your Parry Level.
+Riposte Adorns - Adds a straight value of riposte that doesn't need a parry to trigger it. Consider it the same as block.
+Block Adorn - This does NOT add to the block chance of your shield, it is an "extra" block chance.

Total Avoidance is made up as follows, I think.....
Block = 20%
Base Avoid = 40%
Parry = 15%
Your total avoidance from the above numbers will not be 75%..

mob attacks 100 times...
20% chance to block so 80 get through.
40% chance to avoid so 48 get through.
15% chance to parry so 40.8 get through.
Total avoid = 59.2%

Add a 1% riposte Adorn...
1% chance to riposte so out of the 40.8 attacks 40.392 get through. 59.608% Avoid.
Add a 1% Block Adorn...

1% Chance to block so out of the 40.392 attacks 39.98808 get through. 60.01192% Avoid.

I may not be 100% correct but this is how I have always looked at how it works, not 100% sure of the order of checks, eg Block > Parry > Avoid etc but the total %avoid is teh same whatever order anyhow.
Hope this is what you wanted.

Souldreamer that is probably the best explanation of block, parry, riposte and how they work together I have ever seen.
Thanks much.
