Default NSS vs GBH vs V'A

I'm not heralding this as particularly scientific but I wanted to get a feel for the parse potential of each of my three main choices of 1H. The V'A in question is the fabled version not mythical!

So, using spectres in SS, I ran a series of autoattack only fights in my regular tanking gear and compared the results.

NSS [1129,805,1159] Mean 1031
GBH [927, 771, 872] Mean 857
V'A [992, 921, 991] Mean 968

The better spread of the NSS seems to win through. From my perspective I always felt I parsed fractionally better with the GBH when I didn't have extra DPS or haste buffs but this doesn't look to be the case.

It has also stirred me into action to find an upgrade to NSS, since there are better 1Hers out there. And it looks like I'll still bring out my Soulfire Gladius for the tough fights.

As I said, this is hardly very scientific but I thought I'd share anyway.

P.S. STR 448, STA/INT build...

NSS has always been unreliable. Plus with hit rates as low as they are, it just compounds the loss of DPS when you miss using a weapon with such a long delay.

For guards looking for a good instanced DPS weapon, just get a Carotidcutter.

Assuming you have 70% DA and 45% melee crits before equipping the weapons here are the calculations:

Vel'Arek will do 108.466 DPS
Carotidcutter will do 105.94 DPS
GBH will do 105.783 DPS
NSS will do 101.597 DPS

Thus, Vel'Arek is the best of those choices. Thus if you have Vel'Arek, it's the best weapon you can have. Carotidcutter and GBH are basically equal, while NSS falls slightly behind.

Your test is hugely flawed because how crits are calculated against grey mobs, thus giving a HUGE advantage to the NSS.

There's no mention of haste so just to verify my thinking...

Since DPS, by definition, is normalized in time(sec), a haste mod would just be a modifier of your DPS numbers?

Example: Vel'Arek w/100% haste = 108.466DPS * 2 = 216.932DPS

Is that correct?

If so, then Vel'Arek comes out further ahead of the others as haste increases.

That's because you're comparing just DPS, you should be comparing how much DPS it does as a %-age comparison before Haste and DPS.

Ya, I know. I was thinking that I could take your numbers and get somewhere close to my real auto attack parses by applying my melee modifiers. But, your numbers are way too low to be describing actual auto attack DPS.

Thanks for the comparison.

STR-bonus, DPS-mod, Haste, class-modifier are all not calculated in, because I haven't gotten around to it. STR and Class are the 2 hardest to do, because I have to have a lot of numbers to fiddle with to find out.

Can you please explain how did you get those number please?

Thanks
