Default Help -Mitigation

I need a little bit of insight from the pros, so here I am ready to be educated or flamed...

I can not figure out why I can have the same armor on as someone and have my mitigation way less then theirs. I am starting to think my toon is bugged. So I am going to ask the noob question and ask for some insight.

What factors can effect mitigation other then your armor? Be as specific as you can: i.e. buff names and how much they effect mitigation.

Does defense skill impact mitigation or your avoidance?
Is there jewelry, potions, or a specific stat that can increase mitigation?

I know some of this information, but I want everyones 2 cents so I am starting as if I know nothing. Please, help me out.

I currently wear mostly Onslaught armor, mixed with a few lengendary pieces from RoK instances and quests. I am sure you can find my toon on EQ2 players. Doh, just looked at eq2players and my poison resist gear is showing up...hopefully that is changed by time someone reads this.

Thanks,
Lucianclaw

A few hints to check:
Some players still wear KoS rewards that boost mitig by 144 (there's also the Unrest ring).
Some players use KoS Wis AA line which boosts mitig by 40ish per AA.
Are you sure you didn't compare your mitig while you were in off and they were in def stance (15% diff) ?
They were may be grouped ?

We only have 2 temporary mitig buffs (which can be enhanced by AA), but I suppose you compared mitig at rest time.

+vs slash, crush, pier give more mit. And your mit will scale by lvl aswell.. the higher lvl gear you have (armor that is). And ofc you can have some from AA:s aswell.

Defence is avoidance and have nothing to do with your mit.

Yeah, I see now that there is a a lot of jewelry and gear that gives direct mitigation benefits. KoS and EoF gear, and there seems to be less RoK items that do this. Of course most of my gear is from instances and quests. The raid gear is hopefully different.

When I started replacing my EoF gear, I did not take that into consideration. I got hooked on all the melee crit benefits.

I been compiling a list of gear that helps mitigation, and when I get time I will post some items.

Mitigation is still important but not as much as it used to be (Before deminishing returns changed everything) since now it seems that avoidance is king. Personally I mouse over my mitigation number and look at the percent since it seems the number is meaningless--I'm at 55% mitigation solo and I'm ok geared imo with mixed fabled/legendary and have tanked everything through to Phara Dar. There are different buffs that directly affect mitigation. Off the top of my head are:
  • Most if not all of the blue shield icon group buffs that priests have give physical mitigation increases on them.
  • Different priests have AAs they can put into cures that raise mitigation for a certain amount of triggers.
  • Crusaders can share their mitigation.
  • The fury 'Hedgehog" spell adds mitigation by for like 36 seconds or so.
  • Your own mitigation timers, of course.
  • Probably lots of other crap I havent thought of at the moment.
Defense effects your avoidance only. There is lots of jewelry that effects your defense. There is some good tank jewelry that comes out of Chardok from various named and is tradeable (Earring of Kilrok/Incarnadine Earring). The court of korucust has a pretty nice wrist item as well that I cant think of at the moment.

Anyway, hope that helps some.

The level of the gear affects the mitigation %. Quality, ie fabled or legendary doesn't seem to matter.

For example Boots of the Wastes Hunter, level 80, with 542 mitigation has more mitigation % than Trampler's Boots, level 78, with 552 mitigation. The extra 2 levels is worth more than the 10 mitigation listed on them.

But why you have a lower % than someone else with the same exact gear is odd. Either they picked up some mitigation with their race attributes that you didn't, or they have adornments that you don't.
