Re: Advice on improving avoidance
Rather than starting another thread I will ask this here. Is there a difference, in relation relation to the parry cap, between contested avoidance and uncontested avoidance?
What I mean is, with a dirge in your group buffing an extra 51 parry you only need to get your parry to 469 to be capped. Does items like +parry adorns or INT line AA parry increasers come into affecting this cap or , since they are treated as a separate check are they separate from affecting the hard cap?
I dunno if that makes sense.

Re: Advice on improving avoidance
Cap is 520 for level 80 and each level you fight above that it is higher. I think it is 1.5 * level plus base. So you have 80*5 =400 +120=520 this is vs a level 80.

Re: Advice on improving avoidance
Please correct me if I'm wrong here, but my understanding is that +parry adorns and the INT line AA add to your parry skill, much like items with +parry. They don't add an extra check, and are limited by the parry cap. Your parry skill is checked against the mob's attack skill to determine your base parry% (and thus is contested.) Then your % modifiers, like the wrist adornment, are added to the total without being checked against mob skill (uncontested), after which the total % is modified based on the mob's level to determine your actual parry %.

Re: Advice on improving avoidance
OK, for my own sanity. Lets see if I understood you correctly.
{[%Parry from gear/AA lines/buffs ] modified by MOB encounter SKILL + %Parry for adornments } modifed by MOB LEVEL = FINAL %Parry?
On another note, what is order checks are done?
Parry, Riposte, % Block, Base
Thanks,
Lucianclaw

Re: Advice on improving avoidance
was just having a chat with a raid guard on my server and he recommended the use of +77 of crushing, piercing and slashing adorn on the wrists if 3% parry is out of reach. Is there a weight to this claim? Moreover, which stats does the aforementioned adornment affect?
Thanks

Re: Advice on improving avoidance
No. Use the 2% parry adorn instead. T7 manas should come cheap now. That's what I use since my Guard is a poor alt, and the good stuff goes to my Conjuror first. =)
The crush/slash/pierce adornment affects mitigation, which is <<<<< uncontested avoidance.

Re: Advice on improving avoidance
{[Parry Skill (Base skill + buffs/+parry AA/equipment/+parry adornments)] modified by MOB attack skills + % modifiers (% parry/riposte adorments, equipment and AAs)} modified by MOB level = Final Parry %
I could be wrong about how the ripostes fit in there, though. My thinking is that they work something like this: {(Base Riposte from Parry skill) + % riposte adorn/equip/AA} modified by MOB level = Riposte %, where Riposte % is a subset of your parries. So, Riposte % + Parry % (Final Parry % - Riposte %) + Hit % = 100%.
I'd assume the checks go in the order displayed by the UI, but it doesn't really matter since they should total up the same regardless of order.

I just read another thread where Grind states that the order is Parry, Block, Base.

Re: Advice on improving avoidance
Your +Parry and +Defence skills are contested against mobs level.
And the cap is Level x 6
So for a level 80 mob the cap is at 480,
Against a level 86 it's 516.
or against the level 88 in SoH it's 528.

Re: Advice on improving avoidance
bullshit. all skills are hardcapped at 520 (your lvlx6.5). if you get above that it does nothing, even against a lvl 100 mob, it scales with the level of the mob for sure, but you gain nothing beyond your skill cap.
