Re: Off Tanking - Guard vs Zerk
Imo zerk is a MUCH more fun class to play over all tho... kinda much miss the old days... would say if you want to OT. Do it as zerk since the job is so much more fun and that is if your guild are ok with it

Re: Off Tanking - Guard vs Zerk
A zonewide from lyceum would be better... none said anything about zonewide... grouped mobs.

Can a skilled guardian, in a tanking position (fully raid buffed), and a skilled high parsing raid behind him outparse zerkers? sure. Even more so considering there's only a couple tanking zerkers out there and chances are their guilds don't parse the same raid wide. Having the rest of your raid parsing very high helps your personal ext dps ALOT. Simply having aggro adds several hundred.
On average zerkers parse higher. Of course theres exceptions for higher skilled, different raid wide dps, different groups, buffs, etcetcetc. That said, just over 5k is one of the highest I've seen, but I have no idea what the raid wide dps was.

We all know that zerkers shine with aoe encounters, so for a good comparison you'd have to actually find some aoe encounters to be included. PPR anyone?

Re: Off Tanking - Guard vs Zerk
Well we were a young guild, went through RoK progression and hit Overking after about 5 weeks(needed to find some key classes), using a zeker as an OT.
Korsha was cake then we hit the twins, the zerker was being dropped fast, was hard as hell for healers to keep him up, but we got through it.
On to OK, we spent 3 weeks pulling him with zerker on adds, he would drop, complain he doesnt have the competant healers. I switched out with him and put him on OK with the MT group players. I handled adds fine, no mages died, and we had about 7 secs to drop dps onto OK. Zerker fell to OK by time he was at 80% frequently. He had almost same type of gear then me at the time.
We replaced him 2 weeks ago with a guardian in RoK quested/instanced gear. He handled twins no probs, and the OK fight was much more easier to manage. We finally brought him down the other night, with about 15% of the amount of pulls it took with zerker to even get OK down to 30%.
The Twins fight is cake now using a guardian to tank that. Healers love it.
IMO zerkers are gimped, maybe with Avatars they are useful, but until we clear VP and have on farm status I do not see why we would even have a zerker on the roster atm.

Re: Off Tanking - Guard vs Zerk
Well... Our Zerker can tank just about anything i would tank with my guardian. We used to be Pal / Zerk setting. I have healed the zerk as a Defiler while he was tanking overking on our first trys. Within 1H30, to learn the encounter, the king was dead. We had no problem keeping the zerker alive, except from a few spikes where you have to actually play as a healer to keep your tank alive.
Our pal now play his defiler and i ( defiler ) now play my guard. It is beneficial to us in a good number of encounters, but saying zerkers are gimped ..... Try to get someone who knows how to play his, or even, try to get some healers that can heal a tank on king adds. One is usually enough for that.

Sounds like a pretty shitty berserker. Or terrible healers, dunno!
Not saying that a zerker can tank like a guardian, but yeah, that sounds like a pretty shitty berserker! Especially as you're not even talking players with mythicals, so the gap is even smaller.

So you're saying the zerker class needs buffing gamewide because the one zerker in your guild sucks?

Re: Off Tanking - Guard vs Zerk
Sigh
Still think it's the lack of group encounters, rather than a broken Zerker class, that's the problem. The trash in SoH, for example, should be linked in groups of 3-4 (and wouldn't even need toning down). Although unless they fix the lag trying to do decent DPS in there is a waste of time.
Even as a Guard I'd rather have trash like LoA and Deathtoll. Single mob trash is so straightforward and tedious to tank I'm sick of VP already.
