When I put /range autoattack the macro returns "unknown command"
Are you using the in game macro with standard UI?
I even attempted to drag my ranged attack icon to the macro but it would not support this.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers.
I wasn't posting actual commands...just the concept. Here are the actual commands you might use:

/toggleautoattack - turns melee attack on or off
/togglerangedattack - turns ranged attack on or off
/autoattack 0 - stops all autoattack
/autoattack 1 - force melee autoattack
/autoattack 2 - force ranged autoattack

I am relatively new to playing my guardian and am trying to get macros and everything setup, question is that i tried using /target_nearest npc in a macro, but it just comes up as unknown command. Is there another way of typing this that works or am i doing something wrong? Trying to get away from tab targetting.

Assign f8 to a convenient key?

I am NOT blasting/flaming you. Just curious that you would find this useful. I can't remember ever being in a situation where I wasn't able to get ToS off in time due to another ability. I HAVE failed at not using it fast enough...hehehe.

To answer the opening post:
I have five ToS macros with different shields and two re-equip shield macros to swap in a fresh shield or more effective one.

Reinforcement also has a macro

You may want to set up a macro to start a heroic opportunity and immediately follow it with a CA. I haven't done this because I'm lazy...but I really should...

yes cancel spell cast is great i use with snaps and for instance on the varsoon fight were interupt is needed right now is very useful

Thank you much these work just fine.
Is there a place to find all the macro commands?
I googled but think I found eq1 commands...

Cheers!
