Default Re: How to be a tank thread ?

We have 2 taunts with longer cast range than the rest of our CAs.
I'd suggest that even though their hit rate is lower they should be your first cast as you can get them off before mob has even fully reached you. And as with all CAs they can be cast while running. Then when the mob is close enough for other CAs then Decimate, and after that I'd say Acceleration Strike as it buffs your DPS the most. Keeping Acceleration Strike down as much as possible is key to increasing DPS when you don't have alot of haste buffs.

I'd also say put 48822 into INT instead of what smash said.
This depends on your situation though if you find that you can get and hold agro easily but that the healers can't keep you up then I guess the parry you get might be worth it. but if you find that you have alot of aggro problems concentrate on getting aggro. A healer that only has to heal 1 person in the group will usualy have an easier time keeping you up so even if you die after aggro has bounced around the losing aggro might be the bigger problem. So to that end be sure to always carry with you 2 weapons so you can switch to dual wield. There are void-infused or something swords that Weaponsmiths with high TSO crafting faction can make. The nathsar Shortsword that drops in CoA in Seb is an easy weapon to get as it's the easiest T8 zone.

If you don't have loads of plat, start to harvest alot and get all your CAs to Adept III this again will help with aggro and even survivability. Concentrate first on decimate, then the damage CAs with shortest recast and the stances. All other rares that arn't silicate loams can still be sold and for that money you can buy silicate loams.

Carry with you a few tower shields to be used up by your Tower of Stone macro.

Do the solo shard quest as often as you can. If you have a few spare gold ask a crafter to make you your TSO set piece or upgrade as that can save you a few shards.

Get yourself an AA mirror so you can have 2 different AA speccs.

Get yourself a better UI (There's a tonne of upgrades you could get, either go for one of the prefab sets or mix and match. EQ2maps is a given though.)

1. Gear: Do the thugga quest get your band, 77 mastercrafted, and all the rok legendary end quest line gear. If you don't have 5 void shards do ward of elements access quests in Lavastorm and get that +2 parry 32% haste item. This should do ya for CoA and Voes. With decent healing Anathema and Deep Forge. Work on your epic ASAP

2. AA's IF your a guard STR 4488 STA 4485 INT 44771 Works well for me.

3. All spells ADEPT III nothing less huge help

Tanking :

1. Body pull whenever possible. your gear sucks so warn the healer you are pulling. An INC macro works well. /gsay INC 5 SECONDISH
Hit the inc button then cast Fortify and go grab the mob and pull it back to the group.

2. Position: pull the mob back and turn it around never have a mob face the group. EVER! Does it knockback? Not sure put it in a corner or a wedge or your back to a wall. Better safe than getting knocked into 20 mobs.

3. Play dumb. your in a group with ppl who have been there before? Pick there brains. Ask the stupid questions.(ie does it knockback, goes it aoe, which direction now, are there adds, where should i tank it.) Definately helps when you have a lil knowledge of what you need to do. Tanking blind sucks.

4. Aggro Control. Don't waste your rescue on the stupid brigand or warlock that attacks on the pull. Keep the healer and crowd control (coercer, illy) up. the rest can revive and will learn after they die a few times. After you pull the first two things a guard should cast are Decimate and exact strike they will hit more than anything else.
wait till you lose it too a dps class before you cast reinforcement.

5. Working on some other stuff to add.

Prezone

1) Did the Thugga Quest at lvl 75, got the band. Need VoES and last kill for my fabled epic. Got 3 pieces T1 shard armor. I think the BP helped a little for the hate gain. Will get the rest asap.

2) went with STR 447, AGI 447, STA 447, INT 48821 because of this post
http://www.eq2flames.com/guardians/4...ng-hate-8.html

I plan to primarily run instance groups with this Guard and thought the extra AoE would help, Did I lose too much hate?

3) I have a Master Alchemist on another toon, so I made the Adept IIIs as I went. No masters yet

Tanking

1) I always body pull - I know that some like it hot, but I like to win(may be why my ranged is under 100). I usually give notice, but need to get into the habit of casting Fortify, thanks for the reminder.

2) The affore mentioned Alchemist is also a Swash. I used to curse tanks that didn't turn the MoB...now I know how hard it can be, sometimes.

3) I agree. I guess it is like moving to a new city... eventually you learn your way around (unless you wander into the wrong neighborhood and get murdered).

4) Aggro Control - There was a pretty good post here on eq2flames concerning casting order, and I think that everyone aggreed that Decimate is first on the list. I never thought about the best time to use reinforcement being after losing aggro. Good advice, I think.

5) I appreciate the fact that you take the time to help out. Thanks ... anything else?

Learn to turn the mob in a similar way so your DPS knows where you usully turn/tank it. That way DPS goes way up and in daubt your overnuking wizzy knows where to run - or he just acts as a 8k ward for one hit which is cool too

If you want to learn to tank just play your regular toon. Watch what the tank does. I started off as a ranger then a tempy then a guard. just watching and learning. then roll and try. nuff said
