Re: Gallenite leaving EQ2
Lol not to mention the fact that Im contractually obligated to stay so it's in my best interest..... As Im sure was the case for Scotty.. So keep that in mind folks.. Most contracts in a position like this would surely be 5 years... Am I wrong LFG? It is possible it was 3 years I guess or the contract had a financial clause in there that the length was deterimined by the P&L.. Regardless though its silly to think Scott is moving on to make himself more marketable imo...

You've apparently never been approached and recruited with a much better offer. I have, and get them. When someone offers you a better deal and an upward move, it is often stupid not to take it. Two year jobs are no longer looked down on, at least by anyone I know. It's less than a year jobs that are a problem.
It's a mobile world now, and upward mobility is definitely good for a resume, regardless of time spent in a previous position.

I'd have to agree with LFG on this one. In the IT world, I get approached with job offers often. A few months ago I got a really nice one, and when I told my employer that I woudl have to leave, they matched the offer, so I stayed. Now I just recently have an amazing offer to go work in Germany for a few years, making more than DOUBLE my current salary (Which is already pretty darn good). Well, Bottom line is even though I hate the act of moving because it's a pain in the ass, I am going to take the job. You have to take the offers as they come. Moving up the ladder leads to success.
This is not necessarily the case for ALL jobs, for example if your a cashier at Wal-Mart, and stay with the company forever, they may make you a front end manager someday or whatnot. Loyalty can be rewarded, but escalating yourself often is more rewarding.

In the IT industry yes. In any industry where you are the "front man" "visionary" or "voice" its a bad bad move for your logevity/earning potential.
There is only one industry player that I can think off that has jumped around unscathed and he was always there for 4-5 years Peter Moore. He has jumped around 3 times in his entire career as front man and each stint minus maybe the dreamcast (becuase it failed...) stint was 4-5 years or more with this newest run being at EA sports and I'm telling you right now Scott is no Peter Moore.
Barring some kind of family/personal matter my guess is one of two things Scott either decided that there was no more room for him to grow at soe or soe decided that for him...
Most of Germany is nice man.. Work Visa's are sweet if you can get the taxes worked out so congrats. 6 hour time diffrence though bro so if you are 9 to 5 there raiding is going to be a bitch.
P.S. Keep in mind most of us will never know why Scott really left as the public anouncement will be so heavly thought out by the PR people that no matter what it is it will be amicable and Scott will sing nothing but SOE's praises post him leaving...

Re: Gallenite leaving EQ2
Changing jobs every two years is definitely NOT a good thing for a resume, sales or not. That doesn't mean you can't get a new job making more money but it is and probably always will be something they will question you on. Solid stable organizations will always look more favorably on performers that show stability themselves. If you jump around too much it's a red flag and it's song and dance time. I've faced the same issue as I was in biometrics for years, still an early adopter industry, and companies come and go, layoff occured often in between rounds of venture funding.
I'm sure the same holds true for the gaming industry as well. Assuming Scott is going to a similar position elsewhere knowing that he is able to see projects trough extended periods is always a positive.

The Department of Labor estimates that people in school (high school and college) today will likely have 10-14 jobs by the time they are 38. This doesn't count part time stuff, but actual "career" jobs.

However this is usually the only way to get a proper raise and/or training. I've seen lots of useless 'lifers' sitting in the IT field who can't do jack shit because they sat in the position for 15-32 years. A lot of them come from the mainframe world and are lost in today's IT world.

Re: Gallenite leaving EQ2
I am in the mining industry and work as a recruiter. Many jobs for us are listed in weeks and months rather than years. Since much of the work in our industry are exploration projects short duration stuff is not a bad mark at all. Often it reflects someone who may be skilled in many types of environments and can adapt to new projects quickly. Barring multiple firings from projects of course.

Re: Gallenite leaving EQ2
Just when exactly did this thread go from being about Scott leaving and turn into a discussion of career paths?
