Re: This is how it will be?
SOE has always had sinister, corrupt and unethical corporate culture. I was exposed to this directly as a volunteer senior guide. I could literally write a full length book exposing the constant parade of shenanigans at SOE. The public would cringe if they knew the full truth of how pernicious and slimy this company is. Strong words yes, but regretfully very true. Let me also say that the majority of SOE employees I have worked with have been outstanding, committed and ethical people.
This EQ2Flames incident is just another in a long line of numerous public relations disasters (from EQ to SWG to EQ2) that has befallen SOE management over the years. It comes as no surprise to be honest. But one person has been at the vortex of most of these problems. His name is Brenlo.
Brenlo has been one of the worst offenders at SOE. He's single-handedly been responsible for many scandals and outright fiascos over the years that have damaged both SOE and the players. Somehow despite his sheer incompetence and bloated ego, he remains gainfully employed. The truth is, over the years he was well protected by his mentor and former boss who used to be VP of Customer Service.
I feel very sorry for Grimwell. He's a great guy and had done much for the MMO community over the years before he came to SOE. Unfortunately, like others that came before him like Moorgard, he has to tow the corporate line. He's got a family and a mortgage to think about. I suspect his letter the admin of this site was carefully crafted by the SOE lawyers.
Thankfully MMO players have many options in 2008. No longer are they shackled to the yoke of an arrogant company like SOE. There are many good companies like Blizzard and Turbine to name a few that deserve your subscription dollars. Until SOE has the courage to engage in some serious internal housekeeping, the only way to teach SOE a lesson is to vote with your dollars.

Re: This is how it will be?
/knucklepounds and /hugs to my friends left in EQ2 and the veterans of EQ2Flames. I'd like to toss a pick-me-up your direction since the last few weeks have been lathered in suck... but... unfortunately, I can just send a little love as I click the account cancellation link.
It's not just endgame raiders that are pissed nowadays. Up until a few weeks ago I was a co-guildleader of a rather large casual guild founded by retired hardcore players who just got tired of the quest to be the first to barely upgrade their digital phats or keep up with "Uberdude Ihavenolife".
We continued to play our silly little MMO for the e-community that we'd become so addicted to over the years through many games dating back to MUDs in the early 90s. Most of us know that every year, around this time, Spring Fever sets in and a general negativity with level capped farming of the last expansion starts oozing over morale in Norrath. This happens because peoples bodies naturally are telling them to get away from the damn keyboard and get some sun after their manic grind of the most recent expansion.
It doesn't matter what game, chatroom, or BBS, it's just a fact that Spring is always hard on e-communities... it particularly sucks in Norrath due to launch schedules.
...but this year...
in Norrath...
is...
different...
Maybe it's Flames getting the finger from SoE. Flames is our refuge after the official site Community Manglers destroyed eq2players... Maybe it's all the forced soloing in the last expansion... Maybe it's the failures of itemization and epics... Maybe it's all the shiftiness of many SoE employees... Maybe it's the fact that most of my friends have found better things to do with their lives...
Simply, there is something fundamentally wrong with EQ2 and it's not worth saving. EQ2 has lost it's heart and the EQ2 community is now a soulless cadaver.
I'm moving on. So long and thanks for all the fish.

Its not like he had a choice in the matter now is it? SOE has decided that they no longer need the input from this community, this was a decsion that they made not LFG or anyone at flames. Now sure have some people either taken things too far or possibly be getting angry about things that may not be as big of a deal? Well yes, you see we are a large portion of the eq2 community, we enjoy this game and give it alot of our time. Time we could be playing other games, or spending time at home etc.
Yet we have a game now that most of us are very frustrated with, we feel as if the management of the game is becoming more and more detached from the community, lets face it outside of the wonderful job on graphics and lore, rok was pretty much a craptastic expansion. The state of the game in our eyes is horrible, and just when soe needs to reach out to its raiding player base let us know they understand our feelings and are attempting to fix things, they basically give us a big F U.
They can do all the content fixes in the world now, because it simply does not matter anymore. SOE has shown how it truly feels about a large portion of its raiding player base. I know as for myself I am just waiting for something to replace eq2 now.
As for me Conan looks like it may be the next step, or maybe another one of the new mmo's coming out. One thing is for sure in my book, I am done with eq2 the game is going down the toilet, Sony sure has some great minds but SOE epic fails at keeping an mmo going.
Look at WoW, by all accounts in purposes there is no reason that any person should be playing WoW.
a) Horrible graphics
b) horrible sound
c) lore that sounds like it was written by a 5 year old
d) The most mundane quests I have ever seen
e) Serious lack of challange
f) Major lack of content, especially at higher tiers
g) No housing system to speak of
h) A crafting system that might as well just give you items
Yet how many people play WoW vrs EQ2? I can assure you it isn't the quality of the game getting people into WoW. Its blizzard management, developer involvement, community relations, marketing, etc. Sure all games have there share of problems but the fact remains SOE can be handed a game made of pure gold and destroy it with poor management.

Re: This is how it will be?
usually just a lurker, since this is a great place to lurk!
devs did not have to post here, but they did.. that said something to me. They felt there was worthwhile discussion here an flames. It's sad to see the idiots in high places at SOE have forbidden that now.
I really hope some of those devs that did participate here will continue to at least read from home accounts about player concerns.
fwiw, I'm not a raider. Just a regular player who's NOT enjoying RoK at all. I've learned a lot from this site and I'm sure even some of the devs have as well.
I have never been banned on the official forums but I have had posts deleted with no explanation so I quit posting there.
