PLUS, they have the added power of a direct pipe-line to the powers that can ban game accounts (since harassment is against the EULA). Frankly, anybody who really "harasses" a dev playing their in-game character is a fucking idiot who WILL be banned.

Not sure what you're getting at, but LFG is our Matt Drudge, people with information will always know where to find him. There is no "before" and "after".

Now you say that nothing was done to anyone in SOE by this, and they suffered nothing. Well, why do other organizations work hard to clean this kind of shit up then? The dividends may come in the longer run but they WILL come.
