I'm glad LFG has found some peace in whatever he imagines it to be. However I have no reason to beleive anyone has undergone a true spritual change simply by virtue of them saying they have and telling some winded up story of how it came to be (99% of the time it includes the tragic end-of-the-rope suicide/depression/etc. tale thats been overused). Only actions speak for true change and only LFG can know if this is the truth as we don't know him personally.

I mosied over to the new site and saw the post about his transformation (letter to my friends) and as he mentioned this site, something he said jumped out at me:

Ya, well, shared hallucations would be fine, except for one thing: the real-world effects that occur outside the houses of worship. The oppression and segregation that occurs within cultures. The clashes between countries, fueled by religious fervor.

Religious fanaticism and fundamentalism are wholly destructive forces, regardless of which religion we're talking about (and Christianity has been the most destructive of all, throughout history). And you can't just write it off by saying, "well, maybe it's only 2 or 3% of each religious community that really feels that way", because that tiny fraction still unquestionably exists, and without fail draws everyone else into their conflicts.

While faith itself may be benign (I personally do not believe, and think that people who do are fundamentally flawed in some very critical way, but their faith is their own and that's their business), religion is the root of most of humanity's evil. And you won't see Lewis Black doing an episode on that one, because that shit's no joke.

And to those asking why LFG's newfound faith is the topic of a RaR... IMO, its not the fact that he's "found Jesus", its because of the way he has presented himself after the fact.

Love that statement and as far as religion goes personally I've given up hope that some supreme being has some plan for us but if this belief has made lfg and anybody else a better person I'm all for it
