Bruisers are Bullys, Bouncers, Bodyguards, and Street Fighters.

Monks are philosophers, Senseis, Aerobics Instructors, and Hair Stylists.

This is why I kinda miss the class and sub-class quests, they each explained the logic behind becoming them. A summoner summoned an elemental at 10, and became a necro at 20 when you made your first zombie.

They should put those quests back in just for the fun of doing them for each specific class/subclass...give them some kind of lowbie epic weapon

The Bruiser class is a class that originated in Freeport between PoP and the beginning of EQ2. All Iksar player characters are Iksar originating in the Shattered Lands, not Kunark, thus they are stuck with being Bruisers. If they allowed an Iksar to begin as an Iksar of the Sathirian Empire, I'd imagine the Monk class should be a viable option, but given how the game engine works, I doubt we'll see it happen.

I'm still all confused about this whole Bruisers aren't martial artists thing... I mean, mine does that kata thing and it look pretty Tiger Chung Lee (Bloodsport) to me.

But really, when I'm playing him (he's my break from Guardian duty) I can't help but to think I'm the Kool Aid Man. Thanks Crabbok.

They are martial artists. They simply fight in a different, more brutal style which was evolved from the original monk style of the Ashen Order. It's like the difference between a Shaolin Monk and a Muy Thai kickboxer or a Ninja. The difference in style is manifested in game by a difference in subclass.
