Monk --> Bruiser? Bruiser --> monk?
So, I've been playing around with my iksar bruiser for a bit now (lvl 52), and this is my first splash into EQ2. Now I played EQ1 for about 6 years (WE dru), so I've got a good knowledge of alot of the lore behind EQ1 and 2 respectively. One thing keeps puzzling me though. The Swifttails in the Kunzar Jungle are supposed to be monks, correct? Now I know you can betray to become an iksar monk whenever, but you're introduced as a bruiser, looking more for strength and discipline, than wisdom and tranquility. So my question is, for anyone who's really up on iksar/monk/bruiser lore, when does a monk, become a bruiser or vice versa? I'm considering betraying my bruiser, but I haven't really decided yet how I want to play my char. Anyone help me decide by answering this question however you can?

Re: Monk --> Bruiser? Bruiser --> monk?
There is some discussion of monks and bruiser in the zone, Pillar of Flame. You have the Ashen Order, (Monks) and the Ashen Disciples (Bruisers). Basicly IIRC, the Disciples were more combative and more angry.
It's like the Sith and the Jedi. Bruisers are Sith.
Now as for what a bruiser represents, well we are like the Kool-Aid man, busting down your wall to punch you in the face and say "Oh Yeah!". We'll start a bar fight, never back down, and dive right into any situation fists blazing. We are the more careless and more aggressive version of the monk.

So basically what you're saying Crabbok, is that if the bruiser class had an icon, or someone to pick to fully represent our class, it would be the kool-aid man?

Re: Monk --> Bruiser? Bruiser --> monk?
To the OP the swift tails are monks. If you go to Mara there is a bit of info there about it. ((looking for guidance from the whistling fists)) As far as i am aware of the Dreadnaughts and Ashen Disciples are the only 2 groups of bruisers in game. Its a more aggresive form but its still based in what EQ2 considers a monk. So I guess want to make a true swiftail make a iskar bruiser and betray.

Re: Monk --> Bruiser? Bruiser --> monk?
Nice Crab, that's pretty much the flag for all bruisers now ;)
I'm not quite high enough to go into Mara to start doing those quests yet, so I might be asking some questions that I'll just get answers for later, but I'm too curious to wait. So what is technically the difference between a monk and a bruiser? Btw in case you haven't noticed, it's mainly the Swifttails that are messing up my view, they seem to be the most aggressive monk caste, but are they technically aggressive enough to be considered bruisers or why are they monks and not bruisers? I think the reason I'm asking, is because based on the Dreadnaughts, that isn't what I rolled my char to be, a gang of martial artists, or an enforcer if you will. I rolled him to be like the old iksar monks back in EQ1, thinking that bruisers operated on the same principles as monks in this game, just in a more aggressive fashion, instead of something completely different. Does that make sense at all?

Re: Monk --> Bruiser? Bruiser --> monk?
Really the best comparasion for a bruiser is a kickboxer, they use a closed boxer stance vs a monk with a open more traditional stace (( when dw weapons)) the swifttails in kunzar are monks and they have a traditional monk heiarchy. A true form swifttail is a monk not a bruiser. I have seen people use bruiser iskar as swiftails.
Also the weapons the monk epic is tied to the swifttails (( have to challenge the grandmaster for one of the 5 blades)) they are holding one of the blades for teaching and learning.

Re: Monk --> Bruiser? Bruiser --> monk?
So I guess the way you're trying to describe it, a monk seeks knowledge and the tranquility that comes with it, where a bruiser wants to just kick your face in and ask questions later? Is that kinda what it boils down to pretty much?
