Lorewise, I think Mayong would win.
Mayong is one of the oldest inhabitants of Norrath and has seen shit that would make your mother cry. He is also studying godhood.
Venril is simply a lich who was bested by his own son. Without the power of his army behind him, Venril himself is just a little above average.
I don't think it's a fair fight for Venril.
