Default Disapointed newbie illu seeks advice

Hi folks

I'm starting EQ2 again after getting bored of wow.
I'm a former enchanter from EQ1, from kunark to Plain of time, and was kinda fond of the enchanter class so far.

I'm lvl 22 on EQ2, playing mostly in group (i don't plan to raid). My experience so far is solo play & Crushbone in full group ( dirge / berserk / defiler / assasin /fury / me)

I'm sort of worried with the illusionist gameplay. Here's the three points i'm mostly worried about.
If you can take time to read & correct my low level feelings, that would be nice.
I'm about to reroll (probably a wiz), but since i'm so used to play en enchanter, i fell somewhat reluctant to do it.

* it's a button-spam class. If i want to add a litlle dps to the groupe, i need to use all my dots, watch their refresh all fight long, and recast at pleasure. My direct nuke seems useless so far.
=> too much key spam

* mezzing is great, but seems not as decisive as in EQ1 ? Group level >> Mezz : if my tank can handle 3 adds, the group is fine. If he can't, sure, i could try & mez something. But resist are really though when mob outlevel you. If mobs don't outlevel me (and so my tank) then the tank can take 3 at a time easily.
=> feel like I have to dps, because mezzing is either too dangerous, or overkill

* weak dps. I'm used to the EQ1 chanty. I perfectly know what a "utility class" is, and how i can't expect a utility class to have a nice DPS. But seeing your post on this board, seems like Enchanter can reach nice DPS.
Maybe i don't have the right spells, or the right gears yet, but my dps seems weak compare to a berserk or a assassin. My wiz alt sounds like a killing machine in comparison.
=> since i feel like i need to DPS if i want to be somewhat usefull to the group, i'm kinda disapointed with my dps (i'm only lvl 22, once again). How does it change with level progression ?

All your comments are welcome

1.yeah illusionist are button smash class, and no the single target nuke is actually pretty good, except the one with the long recast.

2.yeah mezzing is crap, if the group can handle adds no point of wasting your time mezzing.

3.WEAK DPS?HELL NO...

get some levels before you analyze a class and say what sucks about it...of course its going to seem they suck at first but you have to wait a few levels...

Yeah you need some decent gear and a better group setup to shine. You'll need at least a troub and preferably a wizard to really light it up.

If you are going to be permanently in that group setup, go down the STR line and melee it up.

thats fine, I can parse fine with a troub and a wizard in a group outside of a raid. Since he's in a melee-centric group I suggested the STR line.

illy is nothing like eq1 enchater. play the class you like not the one that's called "enchanter" since it's not one you think of.

You need a Troub and Wizard to shine in a heroic group? Wow. I'll outparse any class in any heroic group all day long.

I wouldn't pick a Wizard or Warlock if you're not planning to raid. Seriously, things will die bofore you've even cast your third spell. I tried levelling a Warlock not long ago and I was bored to tears. By the time I had cast two spells everything was dead.

Just make sure you spec down the AGI AA line so you can cast your spells a lot quicker.

No, but its a lot more fun, hence "really shining" . If nobody can beat you in a heroic group while you have neither of those classes, than they aren't playing up to their full potential or they have bad gear. Most dps scout classes (rogue/predator) should be able to beat us on heroic fights and sorcs probably will too depending on how many hits they get in.

If the stuff is melting in 5 seconds the content isn't challenging enough.

That would depend HIGHLY on the mobs you are fighting and whos in your group.

You're right. Heroic content isn't challenging enough.

For sure, but I'm just talking about the majority of content. The average if you will.
