New Illusionist, looking for some pointers

So, my new alt on Nagafen is an illusionist, and mainly im looking for two things, one, what gear should I look for, and 2, what AA setup should I go for, I have been told and started down AGI line. Also, are mezzes almost completely useless in pve until CMM/Nizara type stuff later on? In pvp they give me 5 seconds or so, so far in pvp, and that isnt that bad, gives me time to root.

Hey Zaci, I have an illy around 35 on PVP that I've been having fun with.

AA line - EoF tree get Illuminate tree finished first. Currently my single target mez lasts for 20 seconds single target and 10 for group. My root is 32 seconds in pvp.

AA line 2 - STR tree. You're source of DPS is going to be Prismatic Discord, which is a temp buff that adds 250 - 300 damage everytime you melee hit. With the STR you'll do almost 1k damage in pvp in 2 seconds. Plus Counterblade will absorb a nuke from a wizzy / warlock if you time it right, or even a fury's thunderbolt.

Obviously Int gear is the best at lower tiers, and find weapons that proc on casting. You will cast alot of spells in a short amount of time so added procs will boost your DPS.

mmm, all sounds good advice, and I will take it, except, when the majority of the population are scouts, (I should know, I am one

) Why would I put my dps in a melee attack, I will get torn up... am I just missing something? Or do you just try to kill them before they get you?

On the PVE side of things, mezz usefulness is relative to your group. If you group with gimp players in a zone where all the mobs are orange, then yes of course mezzes will be useful. Then again, if your group is pretty good, you wont even need them in nizara except maybe on the boss. But yeah u heard right, most of the time they are useless.

While they are mezzed you cast Prismatic Discord on yourself, you wait til mez is low then stun and rattle off your 4 attacks. Root, back up and mez again.

Ah yes, didnt think of the stun working through the autoattack. What I get for playing scouts for ages since pve, and never rolling a mage, have no idea what breaks what

I'm new to illy class too but I've noticed that a second mezz attempt in pvp is always "Immune". I'm missing something...

I don't have a chanter on pvp, but you should check the immunity timer left on your mez, best bet might be to stifle them while that's refreshing.

For basically all types of CC (excluding the gear proccing ones) once you cast a mezz, they get an immunity to mezz timer for double (or 1.5x i forget)the duration of the mezz spell, so you'd have to try and wait it out if you want to chain mezz. As for Zacii, you could get torn up in melee range from a scout, but assuming your full str line you'll have some decent pvp melee range (doesn't work in pve, but great for pvp) that when maxed its about the range of Reach, meaning you can shell off your prismatic spells from a relatively safe distance.
