Illy or Coercer 4 soloing

Been reading up a lot on Coercers but seems the flavor of the month is the Illy. I really like the Coercer's charm pet ability but am looking to make a toon that can take "the hardest named mobs possible." I just like the challange. Iv'e heard that Coercers are hit and miss, meaning you die a lot, but can pull off some mean ass shit no one else can.

With that said, can you guys take down what a Coercer can and better? Or, is that where they succeed as you do in groups?

meh, we can solo pretty much anything not root/stun immune, where as coercer are the most boreing class i have ever played, really want your into i guess

Coercer is far better for soloing if you can get a pet that doesn't suck. Illusionists are good everywhere, while Coercers are okay anywhere they can't find a really good pet, whereas if they find a really good pet they are far better than Illusionists for soloing.

Coercers are dependent on their charmed pet for successful and quick soloing. If there is no casting pet, which is a rare occurrence, then soloing takes a painfully long time.

So... Coercer > Illusionist at heroic PvE soloing 99% of the time.

Coercers are better at soloing, but they are an infinitely more boring class to play.

disagree, illusionists are way more consistant when it comes to soloing than a coercer, plus our dps isn't revolved around the mob dealing damage

That's more an overall statement than just strictly soloing heroics and named because when I'm soloing, I don't even cast my reactives for damage since the mob is perma-controlled.

The coercer pet control can (and does) break randomly. Having the potential for your ally to become a foe with no notice is not fun, nor is it safe.

The illu clone can deal a reasonable amount of damage, uses limited crowd control spells and will never betray you mid combat.

The illu clone can be named as you are with /petname <name> prior to summoning - often people will attack your clone instead of you by mistake in this case.

coercer does have cooler sounding spell names.

There is plenty of warning when a coercers pet breaks, the former pet is even stunned for a couple seconds. I have played both a coercer and now my betrayed Illusionist. As far as soloing goes, I would say they are pretty comparable. As someone said coercers rely more on their pet and reactives to do damage; whereas, Illusionists can straight up dps. Having played both, they can solo the same things, Illusionists just do it a lot faster.
