Ran CoD tonight, Crit was at 61%, zonewide minus leviathan was about 46% crit. (non-melee)

I finally got my Praetor's Guard, so switched to Soulfire/Praetor/Dark Orb. I then respec'd to str line for some testing.

I am considering some minor gear changes, mainly my primary. I am also waiting on Frigid Piercer or Epic.

Anyone have suggestions for a good primary or any other item that could actually provide a soid dps gain for str lne? Something with a large damage proc, high damage spread, and 3+ delay would probably be good.

Get a carrotcutter if you don't want to get raid loot. Otherwise I think that wannabe-drakota on the 3rd floor of VP drops a fairly decent 1-hander.

Even with WoCP I'm getting about 110dps from crushing alone. Anyone post what they are getting out of carotidcutter? (w/o a dirge) in a typical fight?

I am on a pvp server in a qeynos guild so take the lack of debuffs into consideration. But, Our last raid where i could get in and do melee the carotidcutter was parsing 400-550dps. I hope to get a more consistant 600 dps out of it. I have made a few adornment changes and other things to adjust my str. I gained a couple hundred STR since then. I will keep you posted if the changes help.

oh yea piercing damage was 14% of my zonewide. There is a better dagger in Kor Sha the Throatripper. TBH from a melee perspective these are both better then the frigid.

Damn. I'd get lynched if I bid on a melee weapon in a raid, but if I did a CoA run where nobody needed carotidcutter (cause they have something better or dont need it) I could see that flying.

That Throatripper dropped for us on our last kor-sha run and it went for a HUGE amount of dkp. That thing is awesome. Carotidcutter is still a pretty rare drop, and even rarer going in with a group that doesn't have at least one person needing/wanting it.

Hell, I can't even get my fucking praetor's guard to drop. If it does and I lose the damn lotto I'll be pissed.

So I was bored to I started poking around for a decent mage weapon for strength line.

What I found...

\aITEM 657631678 1367067646:Hammer of Swirling Constellations\/a

47-266 - delay 3.0 - +str - melee group heal proc - ratio 5.66

\aITEM -1270934779 -1248783613:Doomcoil's Deactivated Control Baton\/a

49-198 - delay 2.5 - +str - melee damage proc - ratio 4.04

\aITEM -1777445177 -1331893516:Worm Tooth Blade\/a

61-347 - delay 4.0 - no str - melee power siphon proc - ratio 5.69

\aITEM 727959404 1875353243:Throatripper\/a

81-322 - delay 4.0 - +str/int +pierce +melee crit - melee damage proc - ratio 3.98

\aITEM -1598683725 1405079690:Betrayal's Song\/a

78-312 - delay 4.0 - +str/int +piercing +DA - melee threat decreaser proc - ratio 4.0

\aITEM -1136430526 1996356593:Carotidcutter\/a

74-297 - delay 4.0 - +str +DA - melee damage proc - ratio 4.01

So after taking a look at these, without testing, I'll attempt to place them in order. With base crit we get from str line I would mostly judge by the weapons ratio (spread). A damage proc can be nice, but becomes a less important factor the higher we get our autoatack damage. +skill is nice, but not a huge factor. Strength can have a pretty big impact, especially if we work with the rest of our gear to get it up. For us, double attack will be greater than melee crit and have a solid impact.

#6 Control Baton. A nice damage proc, some str, and an okay damage spread make this a solid choice for those that just wanna squeeze out some extra dps without any real gear changes. Easy to get.

#4-5 Betrayal and Carotid. They are both fairly similar. The proc and extra DA on Carotid I think would pull it up alongside Betrayal.

#3 Throatripper. Nice all around weapon.

#2 Worm Tooth Blade. Not sure the ratio alone warrants this spot. It really has nothing else. The power siphon combined with smoldering phantom adorn could free up another gear slot.

#1 Hammer of Swirling. High strength, spread, and not pissing off scouts make this my #1 pick.

I will probably go after the Hammer, but might take the Rod if it drops. It's a shame they make 2 levels of weapons. The only solid ones also have fighter or scouts tagged to em. Mage only ones blow.

Ok, I know the general feeling is that there isn't much or anything at all that replaces BCG, but I wanted to get people's input for this as T8 gear:

BCG is so amazing becuase of the high end on it's proc, which when you crit is all that matters.

It's not the general feeling, it is the facts that BCG is the best, period.
