My guess is that the cloak comes in 2nd place.

I was arguing this with Tangarth earlier, I think it's > VS, he thinks it's slightly worse.

Either way, it's a top 2 piece.

The bangle should be pretty high up there too on both accounts. it's better than anything non-raid except probably TBoD. On the ring side, it's better than everything except Burdened that's non-raid.

So, i'm bored at work so i'll toss out my gear setup and get some feedback. I'm a little torn over some left side pieces atm.

Items in blue I do not have, but eventually plan on getting. * Indicates obvious best choice, but keep in mind some really good items don't have * next to them because I feel they are dependant on the current amount of +spell/crit or where 4 set bonus is coming from.

That is what I have so far. I replaced my set hat awhile ago for HoDD and broke my 4 set of Head/Shoulders/Legs/Feet. I then swapped in set Forearms to get the 4 set bonus. That left me with RoDP and Sorc Gloves. I also have Lava Channeling Sleeves and will be picking up our set Robe for minimum dkp soon. I was thinking about grabbing the set gloves next time they drop as well.

I'm a little torn atm as to how to fit in the 4 set bonus.

I highly doubt I would use the new RE2 cloak over VS cloak. Reuse is much harder to come by than +spell. That is why I'm considering our set robe for 4 set, but probably only after I get the rest of my gear.

I have had the chance to bid on and get alot of the blue items, but I have been trying to save my dkp for the bigger impacting dps items.


DA has run SoH killing Maestro everytime since the zone opened and have not seen 1 Aria, so I bid on SoH as there are alot of non-mages above me that will beat me. Death Chimes are a long way off.

No luck on Usla's Bangle, but I keep trying. /Grumble, Trak does not wanna give up Sash, but I will get the 1st one that drops, as I having been saving dkp. I have passed on alot of Studs cause i'm cheap and it was not a huge upgrade. I may go after the next Unkempt Earring, but with my current +spell, it's not a huge upgrade to lose the crit. Maybe after I get the sash.

Hmmm.. Signet of Betrayal. I have been toying with the idea of this for awhile. The wand rarely (if ever) gets me in trouble, but the addition of the Signet might give me problems, mostly if I get (un)lucky with a streak of procs. With how close I am to my final gear setup, squeezing in another damage proc would be nice.

I only use the Soulshattering Band in my stoneskin set. I don't find the need for more than Band and Robe for most of the toughest content though.

Finally got the Usla's Bangle. I also picked up Earring of Unkempt Energies and our set robe. Finally our guild had an aria drop also (altho DC is a ways off). We still have not seen Trak drop his earring or volcanic sash. It's been months since our last Signet of Betrayal.

I'm still testing out 4 set. There are 3 somewhat valid combos.

shoulders, legs, feet, forearms
shoulders, legs, chest, feet
shoulders, legs, hands, feet

With these various combos you have Lava Channeling Sleeves, Sorcerous Gloves, and Robe of Dark Power to play with.

On paper the set chest combo seems to be the best. That is the one I am currently testing. I'm not happy with where that setup puts my +spell tho.

So, back to left side gear combinations.

The only thing I can pretty much say with a certainty is everyone that can, should be using the 4 set bonus (even before they fix it), unless their 4th piece is head and it prevents the wearing of HoDD.

From simple testing/observation the 4 set in any combo does better than the best right side combo gear w/ only 2 set.

As I've mentioned above we seem to have 3 valid combos for 4 set. We start with HoDD, Set Legs, and Set Shoulders as our static pieces. That leaves us 4 slots to deal with and get our 4 set (2 set and 2 other).

Robe of Dark Power +125 Spell +9 Crit w/ Displacement
Lava Channeling Sleeves +7 Crit 5 Beneficial Reuse (P.A.)
Sorcerous Gloves +4 Crit
Set Chest 10 Reuse
Set Feet +100 Spell
Set Hands (only for 4 set - greater survivability)
Set Forearms +125 Spell

Combo #1 RoDP, Set Forearms, SG, Set Feet
350 +Spell 13 Crit w/ Displacement

Combo #2 Set Chest, LCS, SG, Set Feet
100 +Spell 11 Crit 10 Reuse 5 Beneficial Reuse

Combo #3 RoDP, LCS, Set Hands, Set Feet
225 +Spell 15 Crit 5 Beneficial Reuse w/ Displacement

Technically speaking if we place a value on Reuse vs. +Spell/Crit in broad terms, w/ the limited amount of the Reuse gear out there we could say the 10 reuse makes up for the loss of +Spell/Crit from the other combos. Thus, on paper it appears Combo #2 is ahead.

When looking at what Reuse does for us though, I would shift from the broad view and look at what it does for specific spells. In the end we always have solid spells up, so for me Reuse is more about Prismatic Adornment and Chromatic Shower coming up faster. This leads me to why my testing seems to put the other combos ahead.

First, as I mentioned the Reuse is only big for PA and CS (imo). This is especially the case on alot of the contested/Trak. What to wear during those encounters is a whole other issue though (sorta). Anyways, the new changes will make it so only the 1st hit of a spell can trigger their detrimental, not every dot tick.

Back on topic. I tend to ramble, sorry. So from raw testing in various zones, since I created this post, Combo #1 has pulled ahead. It pulled ahead enough that I could see it. Combo #3 would not be bad either (if you wanna wear those shitty gloves).

In (long drawn out rambling) conclusion, all 3 combos seem fairly close. What you wear depends on the situation, what other gear you use, and what your +Spell/Crit are at.

For now I roll with Combo #1 and around 1000 +Spell 104 +Crit w/ temp items/choker in a raid. I sometimes switch to Combo #2 also. I will likely switch to Combo #3 when I get the Set Hands for a +Crit boost since I have so much +Spell. I will also get a +Spell reduction when I finally get the Trak belt. OMG will that fuckin thing ever drop? After a retarded amount of kills we have yet to see the belt or earring.

So yeah. As a min/maxer it pisses me off there is no 100% defined best. Work your way to 800ish +Spell (700 minimum, easy to get), try to shoot for 110ish +Crit (depending on level of mob) or basically get as much as you can. Fit in Reuse where you feel you can afford to. Prioritize 2 set, HoDD, WWoM, BC, and DC as you will likely not see any significant upgrades for a long time to come.

Well, it's almost closing time, but i'll toss out a few more quick gear suggestions.

For contested/Trak/Byzola, and a few other encounters I suggest stoneskin gear. Pinski has it listed in the 1st post of this thread. Personally I only use 2 (RoDP and Soulshattering Band) most of the time and it's more of a safety net than a real need. For those that die alot or are just starting tougher content, I suggest you look at the list and wear what you can. Yes, it fucks with your uber +spell/crit, but you can't do dps dead.

Also look into \aITEM 97386857 1029733168:Remnant of the Tintinnabulum\/a if you can get it. It has helped increase my dps a fair amount and left me able to arcane cure a healer during tough fights.

On the toughest mobs I usually swap out Bloodthirsty Choker for Chain Necklace of Pain, either Hoop of Dimensional Power or Earring of Unkempt Energies for Remnant of the Tintinnabulum, Blackened Band of Devastation (sometimes Burning Band) for Soulshattering Band, and Cord for Stoneskin Belt.

I expect in the beginning of the next xpack that I will take an even more defensive stance for gear setup.

That's about it. If you use EGG and check my profile often u might also see my duel set. Boy does that piss people off. If your raid is really slow at killing contested adds or your OT/Healers suck you may wanna consider using some of those items (stun procs mainly).

As a side note, does reuse cap at 50%?

Reuse works exactly like casting speed. Caps at 100%, but 100% reduces it in half.

yeah, so the lowest you can get a base 10min reuse spell down to is 5min.
Even if you have an item/aa reducing the reuse by say 2min, so you always see 8min, it will be capped at 5min.

He's talking about the cap. Meaning, PA is limited to 7.5s, no matter what.
