I've gotten my illusionist to 71 fairly rapidly. I've never seriously raided, but I like him enough that I am looking to start. Up until now, I have been using the standard UI. It's been fine, but I haven't been worried about wringing that last bit of DPS out of my toon, either.

Are there UIs that are "must haves" when seriously raiding as an illusionist, or is it fine to stay with the standard one? What Uis do people here use?

I use ProfitUI Reborn. It now has an updater you can launch as well which works pretty well.

Not sure if default displays a timer on maintained spells. If not it is useful to get.

i use a couple UI mods but really the only one that is border-line necessary is a player window with % power. I dont play a healer and i dont give a shit about click to cure, so i use this oooold school player window mod with health and power %.

if youve never used any UI mods make sure to read the FAQ on how to install. If you dont have the eq2map mod, i would download that since it sets up all the technical crap for you. once you download other UIs just put them in the EQ2MAP folder in your sony>eq2>ui directory.

There are a lot of extra frills on profit that I'd rather live without, but i certainly prefer that to default.

Its just nice to have a UI that gets updated regularly and make an effort to be ready for major changes made by SOE (UI wise).

I heard UIs in WOW are a huge thing due to macro's etc that are built into them, I'm not sure if that's what your expecting from a UI, as in EQ2 they offer little other than layout, style and some extra buttons for convenience here or there.

Profit is a great all-around UI, and I admit, I've gotten hooked to the raid hotkeys (I only use 1 regularly, which is my Mana Flow one) and I don't think i could go back to targeting and using a hotkey after that lol! Plus its streamlined and everything lines up neatly, unlike default which has too many rounded corners and ugly borders IMO.
