Default Illus v. Coercer - Further Explaination

Ok, I'm semi new to the game. My character (coercer) is 52 now and I've read in this section that Coercers are boring to death, which i can somewhat agree with having seen family members play Mystic/Conjur/Fury. So my question is: What makes Illusionists more enjoyable? The only differences I see is that Illusionist have a perma casting pet to where Coercers do not. Also Coercers deal with a "DPS" buff while Illusionist deal in terms of hastening.

I'm still a newb, so bare with me. Any info on the subject would be great help.

Thanks!

Oh, this thread is going to make me cry myself to sleep tonight.
Coercers are pretty fun.

The real questions is. what are you doing? are you soloing? do you plan to raid? and so on. at that point I can help you with your answer =)

Pick illusionist, if you need to afterwards betray, but it's easier to level as an illus

The grandest oversimplification I can come up with is that coercers are pro-melee/anti-caster and illusionists are pro-caster/anti-melee. And you happen to be a caster.

I'm really not looking for what I should do, I'm pretty sure I'm sticking with my Coercer to atleast 70.. If i need to do Illusionist to raid I will.

I just saw several of the people in this section of the forums say that Illusionists was a ton less boring then Coercer and would like to know what makes them more enjoyable.

This isnt over simplification, this is ignorance. Yes, if you have a coercer and an illusionist on a raid, the illy should probably be in the mage group and the coercer in the melee group but that doesn't make them pro/anti anything.

The simple explanation is that Soloing and DPSing are just more challenging with a coercer. Some may find this challenge boring...I just found it tedious after 2.5 years. In fact, one could even argue that Illy is more boring because it is just much less difficult to solo and DPS with an illy. To solo as an Illy, i just /cast pet, /root, /nuke, move on. It is super easy. Coercers need to find pets, maintain pets, and depend on pet DPS (unless they have a pet tanking to use reactives.) Boring is not the way i would describe it.

One thing i REALLY miss as an Illy, though, is a reactive stun (god thats uber when you need it, FUCK mez on a coercer). Also, it would be nice to have a PBAE anything to compare to sonic boom.

The bottom line is that with the 2 chanter classes, Illy is way more easymode and coercer is way more challenging. Coercers may disagree and talk about how easy it is to be a coercer. However, if it is easy to play a coercer then retarded monkeys can play illy.

EDIT: fixed typos, missed others probably.

To me chanters are:

1. CC
2. Buffs
3. DPS

Illusionist does all 3 of these better, and it's not "retarded monkey" easy. The reason it's harder to do these on a coercer is

1. Missing a fast cast mez, as well as a PBAE mez
2. Some nice buffs for MT setup, but overall, missing quite a bit compared to Haste, Dynamism, IA, TC, Sentiment, Savante.
3. Coercers main source of DPS is reactive damage, which a lot of times, is either really good or pretty terrible. AE mobs may even get you aggro/dead if you have all of your reactives up.

I played a coercer for a while, but I am an illusionist now. The things I miss that a coercer has is:

- Faster manaflow
- Channel
- Memblur
- Reactive stuns on heroics
- SONIC BOOM (best spell evar)
- Charming corpse candles on MO fights

I've never had anyone tell me to betray as an illusionist. As a coercer...only every time I logged in to raid.

I've heard lots of people claiming its easier to solo with Illu then as a Coercer. I can't fathom how that could be the case in RoK. They handed Coercers so many good mage pets to charm that it was so easy to lvl I thought it was almost unfair. I would have my pet killing one mob while I engaged the next three mobs or so I needed and was chain killing. I never seen any other class able to solo as fast as I was able to. I felt like a god pre 80 soloing next to the entrance to vp in JW.

I don't understand why people say its hard to solo as a coercer. Yes charm breaks. Not a big deal. It isn't that hard to deal with. A. Mezz if its up. B. Stun if mezz isn't up. C. Root. then silence. I do enjoy the challenge but after a couple lvls of these tactics it's like anything else you start doing it with ease and the feeling sets in that its to easy.

Play the class you want. Don't worry if people say raids only want one coercer because if you happen to be one of the good ones there is always room. Eldrad
