The point being that you can do the mage buffing outside of your group, but you can't do the haste. Haste is easy to cap, sure, however, it depends on the weapon used. Many melee types are going to bigger hitting, slower weapons now, so they can get more mileage out of haste.

You can't buff TC to the mage outside your group. Tho the dirge wouldn't mind it, tbh!

There are a number of reasons to put an illusionist in the mage group.

Sentiment - +casting +int
Savante- less power usage
TC
The multitude of mage buffs we make use of with a troubador.

We do more or equal dps to the majority of mages in this game, and we benefit more from group procs than any other mage due to our casting speed.

Tandem is raid wide, but this usually goes on 3 mages, and haste on the scouts in group.
