Newb dps question

I have looked over the first 5 or 6 pages and searched for this info with no luck. I am lvl 74 and raid very infrequently. I have been practicing keeping below 30% to increase my DPS. I have a question about gear. Is it better to have +spell damage gear or power regen gear (so as to not run out of power on long fights)? Total newb question I know, Thanks in advance for any info/advice.

Edit: also, if regen is better, then how much is enough?

with your fabled epic you can pretty much do without any power proccing, check out the
(\aITEM -1957568843 400867073 -134495482:[V'Ncenzi's Voluminous Cape]\/a), it's probably pretty cheap price wise if it's even on the broker. Spell damage is nice, but like the other threads said, don't go much over 500, go for crits. Crits are gold in a raid with a troub and wizard.

If you have a bard in your group on the raid having epic and 1 power regen item is usually enough. But don't get the in combat regen items, get something that procs power.

A quite a good power proc item are the soulsiphon legs from CoA. I used to use them before I got my VS set legs as there isn't much else for leg slot worth using.

Also the Necro orb from the epic in Forsaken City is a nice item as it does damage and power. I would suggest trying to farm that if you don't have it, before it turns grey.

Stick regen items in the slots you don''t have other good damage items for. This will change as you get new gear so it's good to have a large selection of different slot regen items.

Can anyone clarify what the in-combat regen is? I thought it was 1.5x level + base, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I thought base was 1% of power pool...apparently this isn't true anymore.

If you mean the cap, it's 1.5 x Level. 120 right now.

it's the power you gain every 6s (ie, 1 tick) you have your base which is pretty low, (at level 80 without any regen my incombat regen is 9) but a +10 incombat regen, or FT10 item will make you tick for 10 more every 6 seconds.

It's very very easy to cap though, hence power procing items being the way to go

Spell damage is ok but Illy cap is low around 500 you really want spell crit and spell proc gear that is your saving grace. Look for the soulsphioning leggings in CoA for power regen. The 30% power final on the Int line is nice but for some huge DPS in a grp check out the Str line too. Granted this is for pure personal dps I don't recomend finishing the Str line. For DPS I did the following. Many recomend some varation of it. I love using it in the mage raid dps group.

Str 4,4,4,7 = 19
Agi 4,7,5,8,2 = 26
Int 6,4,4,8,2 = 24
