If there's nobody else to put it on, I like it when the Assassins Apply Poison on me.

This is mostly for fun though, so I don't recommend that you go demanding it!

Honestly i started my illy 5 monthes ago and have taken 3 monthes of that off. I'm lvl 80 and when i can afford my account i raid. If you look at your buffs you should know where they go. as far as gettin buffs from other people there is nothing you need to ask for that is gonna make a difference. maybe 50-100 dps but honestly it's negligable and doesn't really matter. I put up 3.5 to 4.5k with only 69% spell crit and 800 int on a laggy computer in the OT group. before i played and illy i had a monk, a inquisitor, renger and zerker. the illusionist class is easy to play and really self explanitory. i never had to ask anyone for aa help or where to cast my buffs. I'm not trying to be mean here to anyone but honestly this is the easiest class i have played, and i have them all except a troubador and dirge.

No one was asking where our buffs go, learn to read. Honestly you sound like one of those people that say diety abilities are useless or this is useless or that its not really worth it. To me you sound like a sub par player who just does not want to go the extra mile.

Personally I am parsing above 4500 in most fights but I ask questions because others out there might know a trick or two that I might not know or have missed because they have played a lot longer then 1 month as an illy.

On a final note if i can find two or three more tricks that can increase my dps by 100+ dps it makes me happy because then i know i am doing everything i can to pump out and dps to the best that i can be.

In a fight where I don't get killed, with a mythical epic I am parsing between 5-7k on most raid fights. I find melee to be more trouble than it's worth, and have gone STA line. That being said, when you CAN melee effectively (without STR line), it does add a couple hundred dps. Now, if you are getting killed by AE's, or if you're having to run forward to melee, you might as well not bother. Positioning on pull is very important if you want to maximize dps from it while still maintaining casting order and max ranged efficiency. I never get any melee buffs, and the only other buffs you might want are Jcap and ROA if you have a mystic in your group.

There are generally better targets for both of those spells than us, we benefit very little from them compared to others.

In some cases, yes, but the majority of fights in this game are trash fights, where the battle might last 45 seconds. Jcap'ing anyone with long recasts is going to benefit them none, but jcap/roa on an illusionist will add a couple hundred dps to his parse. Boss fights I usually get jcap somewhere in the middle of the fight once other people have their immunities up, or save it if I have to blow savante. When you are a class that is usually in the top 5 for dps, it can be hard to justify sacrificing any dps buffs for another dps class.

Hmmm,

I initially thought, upon reading jcap description, that if you cast a spell while it was up, I would get a reduction of recast by 1/2 of total.

Upon paying attention to what actually happened, and discussing with my troub... it seems that all it does is double the speed of recovery for that 30 s for any spells that are down.

Therefore, if I have a spell that is down with 5 min recast, for the 30 s that jcap is up, it reduces a minute off the time instead of just 30 s. Therefore, it actually removes 30 s from the reuse of all spells that are down for the entire period of jcap.

Less amazing than I thought, but still very useful - especially if you have a lot of 1 minute+ spells, or will recast the shorter spells sooner if they pop sooner (i.e. your highest damage spells).

Is this the general understanding of how jcap works?

Section 6 answers your question, the rest will probably be of use also.
