Re: Soloing nameds, when do we come into our own?
I think I started killing nameds around 30 on my illu. Past that point I've pretty much always at least tried to solo nameds I ran into, and usually killed them just fine. It really helps getting the pet in the 30's that roots as well, adding an extra layer of security (just keep a close eye on your own root, if it breaks refresh it, if you can't, stun in case the pet one breaks too).
When soloing, I found it easier to simply root and unload. It's very rare both my and my pet root break at the same time, and I have no stuns or daze/stifle combo up at all (and then having the pet not stun either). At higher level, with long stun/etc durations, it becomes a lot easier to simply keep the mob controlled for a long time like that, but that option won't really be available at lower levels due to shorter durations.
If you want to play it really safe, only dot while stuns are up, when stuns are over cancel the dots so you can mez (you can mez while moving, if you didn't know), and simply wear them down the long way. Personally I didn't bother with this as soon as my pet got it's root too, because you'll kill much faster being able to use all dots. I've only died maybe a few times at most because of root breaking before it was back up again and then having all my stuns get resisted (along with the pet not rooting or stunning either).
The only time I still bother with the whole stun/mez routine is if I'm fighting something that will 1 shot me if it gets into melee range, or mobs that do a ton of damage at range (like casters).
