Re: Soloing nameds, when do we come into our own?
at higher lvl's it becomes easier as you can first stun a mob, the group stun him, then daze/stiffle it and rince and repeat
as for now just keep practicing with the stuns and roots and do what dailon said; if shit hits the fan run and mez

Re: Soloing nameds, when do we come into our own?
My illu is currently lvl 36 or so, and while my focus was on getting lots of aaxp, I slacked in Nek Forest, and there aren't many heroic names at all... but I went to RoV last night and killed the Weavemaster (green con) and some other heroics, and it was pretty easy, no big difference. Your root shouldnt break at all or not very often. If it breaks, use a fast stun, re-root or long stun, back up, re-root. Try to get root+stun ad3 or m1s, and put some aa in root maybe if it breaks often for you? Hmm, thinking about it, maybe I have it easier because I am two boxing with a troub. Meh.

Re: Soloing nameds, when do we come into our own?
Hmmm, you are using your pet, right?
Put it on ranged (/pet ranged) to make sure it doesn't go in to melee and get killed. The pet throws a lot of control spells, including it's own root, so you will have roots double stacked. Look at the mob in the target window and you can see if both roots are up, if one drops on a tough mob I'll stop dps'ing and/or throw stuns if my root is in cooldown. That way I'm ready to reroot and/or the mob is stunned if it breaks the other root.
Also, a lot of starting illy's don't understand how dazes and stifles work - daze stops the mobs auto-attack melee damage, stfile stops it's spells and/or CAs. If you cast both your daze and your stilfe at once, it's like a perma-stun except the mob can still move around - just can't do any damage to you. Intermix the layered daze/stifle with your stuns and you can stand toe-to-toe with a mob for a long time...
Just a few tips, keep practicing, and definitely get out your pet for solo'ing regardless of having to drop other group buffs (if you weren't). If you get just one or two spells made adept 3 every tier, I'd do the quick, fast casting damage spell (beam) and your pet.

Re: Soloing nameds, when do we come into our own?
If at all possible, kill roamers first if you wanna take on a hard named. You might need space to maneuver. And if your pet doesnt cast a root yet, then your next one will. My current (from level 33) casts roots, deffo. Btw daze and stifle are 6s and 10s duration at level 38, so that's not that good to use... duration increases with higher levels tho.
