Default Does Race matter

I just started playing EQ2 and hit lvl 10 with my halfling Illusionist. I noticed the most the racials arent reall designed for a caster and that my agility is still way higher then my intel. Will this even out? I dont care if I only loose a little being a halfling since I like the halfling look/lore I just dont want to be totally gimped. Thanks

In the end not much, but for an Illy the Erudite is a little bit more tailored to the class.

Rats for the mother fucking win! But no really theres not that much of a reason to worry about race. At high end i dont see race ever being a problem.

There are some races that offer more as far as Racial Abilities, but as other's have said. Race doesn't make a difference in the end. Erudites and Dark Elf's are the 2 best races as far as racial abilities, but just pick what ever class you like.

You get certain bonuses to crits, spell haste, etc.

Dark Elf
High Elf
Gnome
Arasai
Erudite

I think those are the good ones for casters. Gnomes are the coolest, naturally. However, High Elves and Erudites get an extra (long recast) AE.

I rolled an arasai for their racial abilities. I hate playing a bug, although it's easy enough to use an illusion to forget the fact that you are playing a fly.

To answer your question...

No race does not matter.

Stats differences at 80 are nothing to roll a certain race for and the benefits you get from racials are fluff at best.

I am not saying they are not useful.
I use the Gnome Lower Hate by two positions all the time it seems.
But it is still fluff.

Just don't pick Irish, all that gives you is alcohol tolerance.
