Max DPS - Maximimizing Raid DPS for an Illusionist
Hello, I played an Illusionist on PvE (I now play on PvP) up until level 60. Back then Illys were not well known for their DPS abilities as most of you may know. Recently I switched my Coercer to an Illusionist. I've been experimenting with different spell combos to try and maximize my dps (because sometimes theres just nothing else to do heh), but so far I've topped out at around 1300, and I've seen Illys break 2k before. Keep in mind, this is without any proc gear and AGI/Int specced under ench tree as well as the extra trigger on my dots/ae's under EoF illy tree. I think I'm spec'd correctly for max DPS, and I'm fairly confident the secret is in the spell order in which I cast.
Normally I start off with my reactive on MT, followed by a DD, followed by dots - then i just basically spam them as they pop. I don't normally have a pet up to make sure everyone gets synergism and whatnot (including myself/other enchanters with agi spec).
Was just wondering if someone could post some ideas that may help me =-)
Thanks in advance.
I'm mainly interested in single target encounter DPS...AOE dps is pretty easy imo. Also, I've already looked over a few other posts and didn't see any examples of actual spell combos, which is what I'm interested in.

Re: Max DPS - Maximimizing Raid DPS for an Illusionist
Chaos, Sentiment pre-pull, Mana flow right as the pull happens, gets me to <30% power. Then we start.
Chronosiphoning - 0
Tribulation - 0.85s
Construct - 1.91s
Beam - 3.54s
Brainburst - 4.5s (at this time we are now at 93% Haste, since Perp is up to 5)
Abolish Hope - 5.46s - 3 total ticks
Beam - 6.42s
UStorm - 8.1s
Solar Shower - 9.52s
Chaos - 11.2
Beam - 12.58
Brock's Thermal Shocker - 14.7
Beam - 15.66
Abolish Hope - 16.62 - 2 total tics
Pause - 17.58
UStorm - 18.12
Brainburst - 19.54 - 4 total tics
Beam - 20.5
Dazzling Array - 21.46
Tribulation - 22.42
Beam - 23.38
Pause - 24.34
Chaos - 24.38
Beam - 25.76
Abolish Hope - 26.72 - 1 total tic
Devitalizing Gazes - 27.68
Beam - 29.1
Assuming you're 4-8-8-3-Perp, 6-4-4-8-VM and Time(5-Beam, 5-BBurst, 5-UStorm, 5-SShower, Time Compression) and Enchanting(1-Cure, 5-Epiph, 5-MSent, 5-PChaos, 5-Syn, 5-Savante, Illusory Arm) with the last 2 points anywhere you want, with enough proc gear and starting the fight out under 30% power the entire time you will do 2k every now and then when the procs work out the way they should. Otherwise you'll do at least 1.8k. No pet, just Synergism on yourself.

Thanks for the quick reply - I'll give that a try when servers come back up
Edit: Any of your guildies ever talk to Calamity anymore? Lost his email address and I want to get ahold of him.

Although I'm still only 53, I've been working out the timing of casts and this is a big help. I copied this and other information and sent it to a 70 friend for him to try out.
So assuming he gets his timing down and settles into a more productive role, my toon may not be needed. If that is the case, would we be better off with me betraying or is it just not that big of a deal?

Re: Max DPS - Maximimizing Raid DPS for an Illusionist
Pinski, is there a reason for not using beam as often as you could? Power management or something? I'm specifically talking about:
Beam - 6.42s
UStorm - 8.1s
Solar Shower - 9.52s
Chaos - 11.2
and
Beam - 15.66
Abolish Hope - 16.62 - 2 total tics
Pause - 17.58
UStorm - 18.12
Brainburst - 19.54 - 4 total tics
Beam - 20.5
I also notice you don't cast any control spells, specifically Tumor. Why not? They proc damage and keep perp flowing, so why don't you cast them? Something to do with epic imunity timers perhaps?

You're going to gain more DPS out of SShower and Chaos than a beam and since they're up at that time, it's best to get them casting instead of beam.
Second area, you only have a small gap so for max damage you are better off waiting the .54s. Also the general reason for having SShower so late at the start is generally a Dispatch should be in by about that time which means you'll catch it with it and do more damage, along with a Chao on the Dispatch.

But wouldn't it be better to do
Beam - 6.42s
UStorm - 8.1s
Solar Shower - 9.52s
Beam
Chaos - 11.2
Beam
The only dps loss you suffer is the ~0.5s or so Chaos is deleyed by casting beam before it.

Re: Max DPS - Maximimizing Raid DPS for an Illusionist
personally, i do both depending on the fight. on short fights i use cal's method, on longer fights i end up alternating beam alot more.
say the fight lasted 15 mins, if you hit beam first every time chaos was coming up you would be losing 3 casts of pris chaos, while gaining 68 casts of shimmering beam. So you lose like 22500 damage to gain about 102000. Plus even with solar shower, hell even if you delay casting it by 1 second, it more than likely isnt going to change the number of times you cast it in that fight.
But on short fights, its like a race with the mob's HP - do as much damage as possible before the timer runs out :p on stuff like that, its usually better to automatically just click the biggest damaging spells that are available, starting from when dispatch hits. This always nets you the most amount of DPS possible.
