Default Recently converted coercer with questions...

Ok, so I've been a coercer for about a year now, and last week I betrayed to Illusionist because my guild needed it. I'm glad to be a chanter again, but I feel like I am totally missing something with the illusionist. I've seen and heard of Illusy's easily parsing 1k+ every fight... I can do it sometimes but nowhere near consistently. My gear is decent, I just think I'm doin things wrong with the spells...

Do you guys have a specific spell order, or at least spells you recommend get placed first for maximum output? Are there certain spells that have really low DPS potential so you don't cast very often?

Oh and one of the most confusing things to me... I know we have a couple of AA's that add on extra damage if we let the dot tick to the end... Is it worth letting it run out for that extra damage, or should I hit the button every time its up to keep Cronosiphoning up?

I'm sure with time and some tweaking of my spell order as I figure things out, my dps will improve. I just feel totally gimp right now lol!

Oh yeah, and I just got a Wand of Crystalized Plasma, is that better than a Grizzfazzle for illusionists?

I know I know, lots of questions. I just never really looked at Illusionists before last week, so I really don't know much about the class.

This is pretty much all you need to know. I use a slightly different order, but the fundamentals are the same and most high DPS Illusionists will use an order very similar.

Getting great DPS with an Illusionist is more about keeping under 30% power and staying there without running out, more than anything. It's funny, but the things that will result in high dps aren't your damage spells, but your mastery of savante, mana flow, extract essance and devitalizing gaze. A useful hint is use manaflow when savante is active because then it only costs you 5% mana to cast, but still returns the full amount. Oh, and unless it's really needed by other classes, use manaflow on yourself.

Always make sure perpetuality is at 5, use whatever spells you can to keep this ability at it's maximum and use shimmering beam after pretty much every two spells.

Procs are your friend. Get as much procing gear as you can, but don't forget to get some power siphon/proc gear too. Remember, stuns, roots, stifles etc, whilst seemingly worthless in a raid situation still proc so use them, they're also good for keeping perpetuality alive.

Oh, and I didn't mention the most obvious part... pick the right AA's, you need a completely different set-up than you used with your Coercer. There are plenty of threads around telling you what to pick.

I think there are quite a few threads on cast order and stuff like that on the official EQ2 forums as well as this one.

I let all spells run out except AH wich I just spam together with beem. People say they run out of stuff to cast but there is always something to cast even if it's not a damage spell. Stun, Trib, even root just to keep it going, even mezz. Only thing one would avoid casting is Phase and Illu allies as they can mess things up for your raid/grp.

I don't have the Plasma wand but I would def say it's better then Grizz anyway.

I think a Illu can easy hit 1k dps with agi/int line even without much proc gear or stuff like that. Biggest problem for me anyway is keeping power under 30% for the whole fight without running low and havning to slow down casting. But with some power proc gear I guess that can fixed.

I'm still learning myself so any feedback (pls no stfu noob stuff ) would be great.

I personally let Ultraviolet Storm, Brainburst and Solar Shower tick through to completion because the damage from Brain Clot (the extra damage) is pretty substantial, especially if it crits. Don't bother upgrading Abolish hope because you'll never let this run through and it's useful for keeping perpetuality alive.

Like I said in my above post, I have a similar spell list to Pinski, but mine is massaged slightly, to allow Ultraviolet and Brainburst run through whithout causing an gaps in my casting.

Obviously, if I'm shit out of spells I'll re-cast Brainburst or Ultraviolet Storm because perpetuality is more important than Brain Clot, but usually I'll at least have a root or something up to make do and keep it going without sacrificing Brain Clot.

Not sure how you have an issue with Ultraviolet... (Cast time is long enough where even with 10% off reuse speed you'll still get the whole thing)

Oh and thanks for all the tips guys! Last night I got to raid for the first time after "teaching" myself a new spell order, and my dps increased dramatically. I am still working things out, but I'm definitely improving!
