Default The shift from battle cleric to caster

It seems with RoK there is a shift from being just pure battle cleric to using both melee and and our spellls. Quite a bit of the RoK fabled gear has some + spell damage and +healing on it. Cardinals Tontlets and Resolute Vambraces from T1 of Rok add quite a bit to our spell damage (+165 spell damage).

I have 2 hot bars with melee combats arts and a 2nd hotbar for the ranged version. Adapt 3 of the ranged spells is superior to the maxed out 5 aa's in most of our CA's except Litany of Anguish which is still pretty nice.

I myself am finding that I am slowly dropping some of battle cleric but enough to maintain the end ability because our DPS from casting is making it a more viable option.

Anyone else run into this or have any thoughts?

what are your parses?

thats the kicker, parse both over a period of time and then compare whats best for you.

i own the tonlets you speak of, but i dont dps in them, if you try and dps in healing gear then yes spells might look better but your numbers wont b too hot. split gear for roles imo.

Yep, I have several different setups macroed already. I just mentioned 2 items but I probablly use 7-8 items some of which are quested, some from instances and some from raiding.

I am just saying that spell casting is becoming a much more viable option, especially when raiding. Instead of having to stand toe to toe with a mob, jousting in and out from the mob I can stand at range and cast away with a significant increase to dps.

It's not really in your best interest to limit yourself to 1 gear setup with the ease of making a gear macro. I currently have 3 macros, one for DPS combat arts, DPS Intelligence and Healing

The main reason I use spells instead of CAs is E:Fana. Dropping Fana to cast spells would lower raid DPS most of the time, even if you're personally putting up decent numbers.

Plus, you get a lot more auto-attack DPS using CAs with Fana up.

The only reason i would even think of casting a single fucking damage spell is because i just cant get near the mob....

I would much rather wade in there hammer swining fanat running CRUSH MAIM KILL!!! oh ya back on topic. sorry

Now with some of these lovely mobs that sony has tossed our way, i have been forced to /gag /gag cast /gag /gag erm excuse me.. yes i said it, cast a spell here and there.

Im not talking about debuffs im talking about damage spells more and more i am finding myself swapping out some of my gear for spell damage just to give me a little push on the ranged mobs.. Hell its not like my little bit o dps is gonna push us over the top but i gotta do everything i can and if it means playing finger wiggler so be it..

so like olfur im running three setups.. my standard heals my standard BC build and now my new one my "i put on my robe and wizzy hat" build.. I shit u not my equip macro says that.. robe and wizzy hat setup.

I forgot to add this little tid bit.. Is this a shift in the way inqs are supposed to be getting it done.. I doubt it.. its just something that we have to adapt to and include in our bag o trix.

so what do u say meph?? like the wizzy hat???

Another reason to consider casting spells is because of Overflow items. Nice to have them proc with spells. Ofcourse I sold all those from quests eons ago. Only got a couple of Legendary ones.

i do not and will not sit and nuke unless its a mob i cannot go near.

when not healing i hit things. my parses are high enough to tell me i can still justify it in melee.

/shrug so far the 2 gear set ups work fine for the work im required to do.

i end up doing fine on ZW for heals and when i get to burn i show up on the parse, all i ask from my class

that said on the mobs i do have to nuke i throw my spells as soon as they refresh and pretend im making a difference
