Default How do YOU judge how good an item is?

When you're looking at how good an item is, how do you judge what item is better than the other, and by how much? What I'm looking to do is compare items in a mathematical way, so that we can tell which item is better now, and also, for future drops, which item is better - and also, how much DKP should you spend on the item.

Basically what I'm doing is making a spreadsheet and judging how much of each stat is worth 1 heal crit, or 1 base heal amount. From here I'll come up with a number that shows the overall effectiveness of an item, not counting which slot it's in. I can add a slot modifier later, to show how good an item is for a given slot.

Granted, there are diminishing returns with some stats, like DPS mod, so for these purposes, lets assume the following:
Average current resist is 8k - dps mod is 70 - heal crit is 80 - just assume a well geared inquisitor, maybe in 4 piece tso (30-40 crit mit) without super amazing gear in the other slots.

So tell me - how much of the following stats are worth 1 heal crit to you?

Keep in mind, this is not meant to come up with an EXACT answer, but to be a better guideline other than saying eh, this item looks better than that item. What I'm ultimately trying to get at is the answer to this age-old question: How much DKP should I spend on this item?

STR

STA

AGI

WIS

INT

HP

Power

Crit Mit

Double attack

Melee Crit Bonus

DPS Mod

Haste (or attack speed)

Power per minute (single target) - Pond Wash = 300 or so power per minute (single target)
HP per minute - Ring of Forgiveness = 700x4 = 2800

Wards per minute (single target) - Dreamweave Ringmail Leggings = 1700 (850x2) or so

Reuse

10% to next heal (triggers 2x/min)

Cast Speed

Combat Art Damage mod

Heal Amount Mod

Resists (overall, assuming 8k average resist)

Any other stat you can think of that is important to inq?

If you think something vastly different than someone else, explain why you think the way you do!

I thank you for your input in advance, and if I get enough feedback I'll post the spreadsheet and results when I'm finished!

You'll need a bit of experience to properly judge an item's worth in conjunction with your current gear, I'll give you that. But no mathematical formulae can replace that experience. If you don't learn to judge it by your experience, you 'll be pretty much lost.

F.e. this cloak is generally considered very powerful:

I usually use this one instead:

I wouldn't have thought about using the latter over the former during ROK since I lacked heal crit. Now that I have 100% heal crit, I use the former as dps cloak, and the latter for heavy duty healing. I dont think you can come up with a formulae for this, and an ordered list will fail as well. Add to that the extremely situational use for either power procs, CC immunity, dps gear, ...

Just for the luls and since no groups are going today, I'll try and make a generic list for a templar who has to heal... (I had to add a few stats)

+base heal
+heal crit mod
Wards per minute (single target)
10% to next heal (if it wasnt bugged)
Reuse
+heal crit
Cast Speed
Power per minute
HP per minute - Ring of Forgiveness = 700x4 = 2800
WIS (for templar mythical buff to reactives)
Crit Mit
Heal Amount Mod
Double attack / Melee Crit Bonus / DPS Mod /Haste
Resists / HP / Power / INT / STR / STA / AGI

I'm not really looking for an ordered list, i'm looking for more of something like this:

I would trade 1 heal crit for 40 stamina (or 50, or 60) ...there has to be somewhere you draw the line.

Even if you dont want to answer every line, give your input on what you want to.

Just bear with me here, and when I'm done, I'll post my results - I think it is fairly accurate as is, but I need more input to refine it.

That's an even worse approach than an ordered list...

There is no set formula.
Once you hit/approach 100% heal crit you look for items with procs like overloaded heal to switch in (or even if you are not near 100% it may make sense).

Like the signet of the ethernauts...awesome proc but "only" 2% heal crit. Would you wear the +6 heal crit neck over the signet? Just because it has 4 more heal crit? In my experience I would say NO.

Its like keeping/spending AA points in heal crit if your over 100% heal crit...whats the point?

The problem with trying to use a formula to generate gear choices is that the formula won't take into account what you have on you and what your other stats are.

I thought I made it clear in the original post that the character was not hard or soft capped on any stats...

the strange thing about the trak cloak is its basically just some random cloak with some str/hp with 4 healcrit, 150 healmod (useless to inqs) and thats it. i guess thats the reason noone except for furies bid on it the first time it dropped (only ever dropped once and nearly got xmuted)

also: the TSO signature reward makes for a better dps cloak imo

Ok, hows this for an answer....

I have two sets of gear I use, one for healing fights and one for dps.

It depends on what the role needed is during the current fight. Palace trash? DPS gear all the way...in fact I can't remember the last time I cast a heal in Palace on trash.

Your OP tells us nothing about what role your trying to fill. Wearing TSO raid pieces will do almost nothing for your dps. Wear soul lancer tier 2 instead to get the 3 set bonus. Gloves for haste and the shoulders at least. Tier 1 chest for the double attack. Viola...130 melee crit and 98 DA with procs etc. depending on AA.

And I agree on the trak cloak for dps. I wear the signature award with my dps gear until I get a better piece with a proc or set bonus proc.
