Default Re: dps weapon

Well I suppose in a way you are right. If I were comparing a weapon with an about 101 listed damage rating to a weapon with an about 184 listed damage rating, then I might be inclined to choose the 184 damage rating above the 101. If you took the 110-130 weapon and gave it a 1.3 delay, then you would have about 184 damage rating listed on inspection.

Seeing as the normal damage rating I see on fabled 2-hander weapons in T7 is about 90-110, I doubt that we will see any 184 damage rating weapons until at least the next tier.

Therefore, I think it is safe to say that the wider the damage rating the better, when it comes to 100%crits, because it allows SOE to give the weapon a lower delay and still have the listed damage rating near other weapons of the same tier.

EDIT: The point I am trying to get across here, is that for a weapon with near the same listed damage rating as Vraksakin or any other T7 2-hander and have a 110-130 range, it would have to have around a 2.3sec delay.

Even if you got really lucky and this weapon hit for the max crit value every swing (130*1.3=169), you are still only doing 73.5 dmg per second (just using base values, no str figured in - 169/2.3=73.48 aprox.).

Yet Vraksakin hitting at minimum damage for 401 every hit (it's actually 405 I think, but we will stick with 401 for consistency) is about 100 dmg per second (once again ignoring str).

This will hold true as long as SOE continues to make fabled weapons of the same tier have appoximately the same damage rating, because the range allows them to have really high crits (even when only criting for the minimum possible crit) and still have a reasonably low delay.

Lemme rephrase my thing differently though. My point was that the spread does make a difference as opposed to just max damage/dly. Take a vrak club with 2-400 and 1-400. The 2-400 will parse higher everytime. That's all I was trying to say only less complicated ;p

Obviously when 2 weapons are very similar 1-400 and 2-400, the 2-400 will be better to use because it's spread is very similar and it has a higher damage rating.

The real question that comes in is: How much higher does the damage rating of a weapon with an average/good spread (1:3, 1:5, 1:9) have to be to beat a 1-MAX type damage spread that Vraksakin has.

I plugged in some numbers into a spreadsheet that I have been working on to determine an effective crit included damage rating, and I think my math is correct

But what I came up with to be near equal to Vraksakin:
1:9 - would require about a 112 damage rating (admittedly less than I would have guessed)
1:5 - would require about 120 damage rating
1:3 - would require about 133 damage rating

Sounds right; that's because when the crit damage vs max/min dmg ratio curve asymptotes at like 20, I believe.

Oh, but for the record: a weapon with a damage range of 2-404 and a weapon with a damage range of 1-404 are going to parse out almost exactly the same, especially for us. You're removing a single possible Random Number Generator result out of 400, thus slightly, ever so slightly, boosting the chance of getting a number high enough that the crit damage boost puts it above the max printed value of the weapon, and thus getting a large hit. But 1/400 is only a .25% chance, so it'd take a weapon comparison of 100,000+ hits in order to see any real difference in dps, and might be attributed to random variation until your sample size reaches at least half a million.

I posted over in the Items thread and some results I had from a bit of experimenting.
Vrak Claw Club Thread

relevant data:
I went and thrashed some of the golems outside of the Nest (65^^^ heroics). Nothing too scientific so I turned on the ACT and killed 5-6 for each weapon.

Specs: I'm a 100AA 70 Inquisitor w/ Battle Cleric, 100% Melee Crit, +91% dps, +20haste, +20% double strike. No potions were used and I was ungrouped/solo. Didn't use Fanaticism.

Stats show from /weapon command. "Listed" was taken from examining the weapon

Maul of the Warden's Fist (MoA Raid zone)
Str: 322
Listed: 55-310 : 4 sec
Base: 101-573
Actual: 132-749
Delay: 3.3
Scintillating Restorative Ubiq
FT7
Melee Weapon hit for: Low - High and DPS (all CA+Spells+Auto Attack/Melee)
Strikes: 750-891 DPS:724 -- 750-909 DPS:770
----
Blackscale Maul (Blackscale Sepulcher)
Str: 296
Listed: 96-545 : 8 sec
Base: 178-1008
Actual: 229-1298
Delay: 6.5
Sparkling Fiery Pith
Strikes: 1299-1632 DPS: 654 -- 1299-1385 DPS:752
----
Hammer of the Tribunal's Judgment (Nizara)
Str 296
Listed: 25-277 : 3 sec
Base: 47-421
Actual: 60-540
Delay: 2.4
Tribunal's Judgment
Strike Range: 541-653 DPS: 638 -- 541-673 DPS:704

---
Of all my weapons, I like the Warden's Fist the most, but I'd drop it in heart beat for a Vrak club or the Tunare 2h staff.

best dps weapons for inquisitors now in EoF have to be the Emerald Hammer off of Wuoshi, the Knotty Pine Cudgel off Treah Greenroot, and the Grim Brimstone Hammer off Mayong.
