Critical Hit mechanics are:
- If RNG damage roll is less than the max damage the critical hit does MaxDamage+1.
- If RNG damage roll is more than the max damage the critical hit does X damage * 1.3 (or 1.x depending on if you have +critical hit bonus items/abilities or not).
This favors high top end weapons compared to lower top end weapons by a
LARGE amount
if the weapons are the same delay. If their delays are different, especially if by a wide margin it becomes a study of trial and error to determine the more beneficial weapon. Purely going for the highest top end possible ignores many aspects.
There are no tricks, gimmicks or overlooked exploits to increasing auto attack DPS.
It boils down to only eight things:
Crit Rate; Strength amount; DPS and Haste modifiers; Hit Rate; Timing to keep delayed attacks to a minimum; Double and Flurry attacks. Thats it, nothing else.
Depending on hit rate, amount of casting you need to do, and how much haste modifier you have you choose one of those three weapons. Lower hit rate and and haste will always favor a faster weapon. High haste and high hit rate will favor the weapon with the largest
potential crits in some instances, but you're usually better off with the faster weapon anyways. More is just that, more.
Edit for Clarity.
