Re: Inquisitor or Templar
Hopefully this is helpful in making your decision.
I started as inquisitor and was getting pretty well geared - had 3 of my T4, my myth, some good mods.
However, my guild asked me to betray to templar to fill the OT healer role, so I did.
Having now played both classes at 80 with decent gear (still need the myth for templar though) here are my biggest comparisons
Inquisitors can do some very nice things with DPS - both their own, and their groups. Fanatical fanaticism is freakin' amazing ...
With the inquisitor mythical, you can heal/cure like a madman... seriously. With .74 casting on your "cure-all" it makes for very happy groups. Another huge benefit of inquisitors is the group heal. First off, it's on roughly 1/2 the templars group heal recast time (inq = about 4, templar = about 8). Secondly, regarding the group heal, the inquisitor group heal will regularly hit for MORE HP than the templars will... mainly because of the crit bonus to it you get in AAs, but also in part to the aftershock myth effect. I've seen my group heal + EMGs + aftershock heal upwards of 8k groupwide often enough.
Templar gets MASSIVE HP buffing - buffing the group for over 3k HP. They also get stoneskin (17% chance to proc on melee with 2pc T4/Master) Templars debuffs are nice, providing some needed group heals, albeit small. Templar also gets Glory, which procs roughly 1k group heals on melee attacks as well. Another HUGE thing that I love about templar is repent. Repent isn't just a simple ward, mind you. From my limited testing here is how it works:
Say you have a 5k repent
The tank then takes a hit that would deal 2k damage. This 2k damage is prevented by repent and is deducted from the ward amount.
here is where it gets awesome - the amount that is deducted from the ward is then converted to a direct heal with crit modifiers. My testing was showing around a multiplier of 1.6 (though this may be affect by heal mod??? anyone know?)
This works out not to only a 2k ward, + 2k heal, but a 3200 point heal.
Another large difference between the two are casting times. Inquisitor gets 30% casting AND reuse speed from their heal stance + mythical... this is amazing allowing you to easily reach the casting speed cap and give a hella lot of reuse to your heals.
Which would I pick, having played both? To be quite honest, I'm tempted to roll and level, and yes, even gear out another inquisitor so I can have the best of both worlds. They are both amazing healers and fun to play.
Good luck with deciding
