This guide is based on Blackguard's original pre-EoF Achievement FAQ from the SoE forums. I rewrote Blackguard's work to add detail and clarification suggested by other players, and based on the significant improvements introduced with the Echoes of Faydwer expansion and released as part of Game Update 32.
EQ2 Achievement System FAQ - Updated for GU32 On patch day for GU32, the Achievement System in EQ2 will work as summarized below: How do I earn achievement points? An achievement point is earned after you've accumulated enough achievement experience to gain a point. It usually takes multiple "achievements" in game to earn an achievement point and train new a new ability. How do I earn achievement experience? You earn new achievement abilities by completing quests, defeating named monsters, acquiring rare treasures, exploring certain places for the first time, and by earning adventure experience after reaching level 70. These "achievements" earn points that add up and allow you to customize your character with new abilities. In addition to the above methods of gaining achievement points, once your character reaches level 70, you will receive achievement experience in lieu of any adventure experience you would have earned instead. Do I need a particular expansion to earn achievement experience? If you own the Echoes of Faydwer expansion, your character will earn achievement experience beginning at adventure level 10. The Echoes of Faydwer expansion will allow you to keep earning and spending achievement points until you get 100 points total, which is the maximum currently allowed. If you do not own the EoF expansion, but you at least own the Kingdom of Sky expansion, you will also earn achievement experience on your character beginning at level 10, but you will not be able to earn or spend more than 50 points unless you purchase the EoF expansion. Do I get the same achievement experience for every achievement event, or does it vary? Achievement experience is based on the level of the achievement event that you trigger. Higher level quests, monsters, etc. will give more achievement experience than lower level events. Also, the experience rate is curved, so lower level players will require smaller amounts of achievement experience to obtain an achievement point, while higher level players require a lot more experience per point. Do I ALWAYS get at least some achievement experience for ANY achievement event? No, to earn achievement experience, there are other circumstances where you may not get achievement experience, including:
When mentoring, you earn achievement experience as if you were the same level as the player you mentored. For example, if you are level 70 and mentor a level 25 character and then complete a level 25 non-repeatable quest, you will earn achievement experience for that quest. The level 25 quest would have been grey to you at level 70 and not given achievement but for the fact that you mentored down. Where can I see what the achievement ability choices are for my character? You can hit "L" in game on any character of any level to bring up an achievement window and see what choices are available to that character. An excellent source for reviewing your achievement choices outside EQ2 is available from eq2ref.com at http://www.eq2ref.com/aa/ You'll see two tabs in your character's achievement window when you open it. The first tab is known as your "Class" window, and the second tab is referred to as your "Subclass" window. If you are a Defiler, for example, your Class window (first tab) will be labeled "Shaman Tree", and your Subclass (second tab) window will be labeled "Defiler Tree." Each circle in the window represents an ability that you can purchase for your character with sufficient points. You can hover your cursor over the circles for a description of a particular ability. How many points can I earn and spend in each of my two achievement windows, and what choices are available? The Class window gives each class different achievement branches. Each path is associated with and referred to by the name of a primary attribute: strength, agility, stamina, wisdom and intelligence. The Subclass window is very different for each class, and includes different path combinations that lead to special final skills for your class. What are the rules about spending points in my Class window? Assuming you own the EoF expansion, you may accumulate and spend up to 50 points in each of your two achievement windows. You must purchase the first skill in your Class window for 1 point before you will be allowed to purchase other abilities in your Class window. Except for the starter ability and the final skill in a branch, you can spend up to 8 points on each other ability, subject to the rules below. To purchase a final skill in a Class window branch before GU32, you were required to spend points in this minimum configuration: 4-4-4-4-8, where 8 was the previous cost of the final skill. To purchase a final skill after GU32, you must now spend at least 22 points total within the branch containing the final skill you want, and you must spend at least 4 points in each of the 4 different skills leading up to the final skill. The great news is that after GU32, the cost of a final skill is only 2 points. So after GU32, point combinations can include, but are not limited to, any of these examples: 8-8-8-8-2, or 4-8-8-8-2, or 4-4-6-8-2, or 4-4-8-7-2, etc. Since you can only earn and spend up to 50 points in your class window, you can see that you must choose between many available abilities. Inexperienced players are urged to consult with experienced players in the same class to make the best decisions possible. You may also want to look up how other players in your class spent their achievement points at http://eq2players.station.sony.com/characters/index.vm. I heard that after GU32, I will be able to obtain a new prefix title, depending on the Achievement Class branch I pick. What are the titles available for my class? ![]() Do I get to keep my prefix title if I later reallocate (respec) my Class achievement points to a different branch? No. If you respec your Class achievement points, your title will be automatically removed, but then you are free to respend your points in a different branch. After purchasing the final skill in a new branch, you will then be awarded the title for that branch. How is spending points in my Subclass window different from spending points in my Class window? You must spend at least three points in each ability in your Subclass window before you can spend points in any connected ability. The final skill shown for each path in your Subclass window only costs 1 point. But before you can purchase that final skill, you must first spend a certain number of points in the achievement branch that's the prerequisite for that skill. The prerequisite information for each final skill is displayed in the examine window for that skill. Can I respec my achievements? Yes, you can respec your achievements by speaking with one of the following NPCs: Qeynos: NPC Wynia Vethe Location: South Qeynos, Mage Tower, loc +706, +42, + 92 Freeport: NPC Nexa L'Dur Location: North Freeport, Academy of Arcane Science, loc -3, -42, -141 Kelethin: NPC Aelia Naeni Location: Greater Faydark, Order of Arcane Treehouse, loc +261, +105, +407 Beginning with GU32, the cost to respec achievements is:
