Because way before kos days when class hats were just a myth, there was a DOF fabled hat that was what is now referred to as the Straw monk hat.

SOE just copied that hat and put it on monks.

I've kept this gear around since I was lvl 38 and able to use it. It was the first real "set" of armor I worked hard to farm for, and I couldn't justify getting rid of it >_< well it finally came out of the bank.

This is quite possibly the best or worst looking chain out there depending on who you talk to
