My biggest gripe is they should have had it "right" before releasing it in game. I'm one of the folks that bought up the collection pieces (at about lvl 74 - still at 78) and have since seen it nerfed to shit.
It's still a nice helmet, but it's kind of like buying a car only to take it home and find out it's a lower end model or something...case in point, you want to receive what you paid for (both through "plat" or effort to acquire the items) and if you don't or it is changed on you, i think you have the right to be disappointed.
As for the strength of the helmet before the change, that is not something you can put on the people that acquired it or are pissed it was nerfed. It never should have been in the game at that state if it wasn't going to stay.
