Meaning I don't like your idea.

Another possible solution:
Instead of needing one particular gem for a pattern, allow two or three different ones per item. This way, you're maybe blocked for a week or two, but not for months. Speaking of being cockblocked, I still have a Wuoshi Scale for my bow... One bow recipe in 7 months of clearing EH weekly ftl.

You don't need 24 people sitting in the zone to kill the drake. Also, why not make the drake serve a purpose rather than standing around doing absolutely nothing except annoying people? Not to mention, need more gems now, just have some people kill it every now and then for an extra few gems! *gasp*.

What I meant was having people afk-sit around is about as difficult as killing the drake. What your suggestion ultimately results in is an enormously tedious event.
No difficulty + tediousness for loot is an already over-used concept in the game, see the new quest line in KP.
Having that drake drop a gem every time would be more of a bandaid to the cockblocking, not a fix.

I am with the crowd that believes the gems should be removed. Too many patterns sitting in our inventory and artificially blocking loot. There is no reason for having the gems other then this and the concept is truly stupid.
