Default Re: What the hell ever happened to actually working for your equipment?

    Impressive hijack. Anywho.

The biggest issue I see is not entirely WoW's fault, but also simply the increase in number of people who have access to video games and decent internet connections. MMO subscribers are only like 10% real gamers, the rest are NOT "gamers." I've always hated arguments claiming that a set of people aren't "real x" but I think it actually fits in this discussion. Skill, practice, is virtually nonexistent. In the days of console games, the "real gamers" would spend hours and hours and hours trying to beat crap. Normal people would pick it up, try the first level and then walk away.

I've been playing FFXI the last few days... You start out with a few pieces of armor, and one spell - the rest, from that point on, you have to buy. Once I hit level 5 (which took like a day and a half btw), yay XP loss and delevelling. I delevelled quite a few times. (I dinged level 9 3 times, level 6 and level 7 two times if I recall) Again, lesson learned. And each time I delevelled, it just made me want to get back out there and recover what I lost. Now that I'm level 10, I could really benefit from some upgraded gear - but I don't have enough money yet, so I have to farm stuff, sell it, and wait... GASP. I have to actually PLAY the game? /quit

So back to EQ2 since my presence was requested. I run instances on my warden... I might as well be AFK... and this is tier 8... Sure, I have the skill from playing EQ2 so much, but still. Literally one heal on the tank and BAM I can go AFK. I log over to my ranger... who is mostly in t6 and t7 gear (I've been slacking, I know), and start doing the quests in KP. I died a couple times, due to an add or whatever, but it didn't matter. I revived 10 FT away at the docks and just went right back to it. Trying to solo orange content on a class like a ranger, with gimp gear, is about the closest this game gets to difficult, and even then like I said, just revive ten feet away, wait 45 seconds or whatever for the rez sickness to drop and then go back to beating the mobs 80% of the time.

Loot is just the tip of the iceberg, and it's already half melted. I posted on the EQ2players boards about the differences between FFXI and EQ2, against my better judgement since I'm sure it won't do any good, but that's all we can really do at this point. I don't blame SoE for trying to make the masses happy, but the side effect is losing the "real gamers," including myself which makes me sad. I will still be logging in some, to play with my friends, but everytime I feel like I'm playing some retarded easy god mode.

I have still not put two and two together on this.
