It doesn't have to be one way or the other. I think the SP model was excellent, where you got a Mythical by participating in a GM led event during the ad-pack launch.
The item is kinda garbage, but I think the point is that it doesn't unbalance things.
As far as those 1st kill mythical wearables, I think those should not be attuneable and should be tradeable (even after being worn) so that they remain in the game and get passed down through generations. It sucks when there is only one on the server and the person quits and dies with them.
