Default +Mitigation Increase Bug getting fixed

    Per Xelgad. Mitigation Increase Bug

We've been evaluating all of the systems in the game to find out what is working and what is not working correctly. During this investigation, we found that there was a bug with the blue stat "Mitigation Increase" causing it to give noticably more than the listed amount of mitigation. This bug has been fixed and is currently on the test servers.

A mitigation increase of 10% was increasing plate mitigation by about 30% and leather mitigation by about 54%. This has been fixed so that the mitigation increase that says 10% will increase your mitigation by 10%. The addition of mitigation to the brawler self buffs was to be in tandem with this bug fix. This change is important because reaching the cap on mitigation causes some abilities, advancements and gear options to become irrelevent. That is obviously detrimental to gameplay and it can be detrimental to balance as well. If some classes have been balanced around having abilities to boost their mitigation and players end up capping out that stat then that element of balance is lost.

This bug has been in the game for a long time so the fix will reduce the mitigation of most tanks. For the sake of being able to balance the tanks in the future, we needed to correct the formula that was used to calculate the effectiveness of "Mitigation Increase."

We'll try to address questions and concerns regarding this fix and we aren't in a rush to get this change to Live. If it looks like there may be problems with it, we'll take the time to get it working right.

It took them this long to deal with this? Hilarity ensues.

It was pointed out multiple times in beta.. and they ignored it. Now they are fixing it.. i am guessing thats what they meant in the guardian changes about a "mechanics change" that would help improve there lead in tanking.

Except that zerkers get the same armor, +%mit AA, and mit buffs guardians do...

Having basic unit tests on blue stats is too hard to do, eh.

Well sorta, but not exactly. The guards do get more +mitigation on their gorup buff, and defensive ability.

I guess thats why they decided to add 1200 mitigation to Inner Calm on test. Too bad my mit on test was still less than it is on Live...damn that update is gonna suck ballz.

OK yeah, guards can dump 5AA into their group temp buff to increase it, as well as up to 10AA into their personal temp buff, regardless both of these increases are pretty minor. Fact is both classes have the buffs available, even though Zerkers temp buffs are about 300ish mitigation less than guardians with full AA into them. Both classes can still get their defensive stance to 24% mitigation increase, and both classes can get the same +%mit from armor. 300 mit on a temp buff when near the cap is going to be less than 1% difference in mitigation, and zerkers do how much more dps than guardians? This mitigation "fix" doesn't do much for the guardian class as a whole, nor is it something we wanted.

The math is actually a bit more fuzzy that you'd think. For one thing the +Mit Increase stat doesn't affect your character traits (which I totally did not consider one way or the other until I went and tested myself), but it does affect any +vs Physical on jewelry you might have. I think.

But if it was pointed out in Beta, and not fixed...
