Now I know this is a flames board and such, but there is a thread in the Everything Else section that you should check out. Owlchick is raising money for her breast cancer walk. You can donate on line if you choose. I think this a worthy cause and deserves some attention.

Having just found out my mom has breast cancer (not to mention many other family memembers who have battled it) I will do whatever I can to help the cause. Every penny bring us closer to a cure!

not meaning to take anything away from any sort of cancer fundraising but more men die of prostate cancer than woman do of breast cancer and how much tv/radio airtime does that get? sadly, no where near enough... which is why funding is about 25% that of breast cancer

From the British Journal of Cancer:
Breast Cancer accounts for 15.5 % of years of life lost to cancer
Prostate Cancer accounts for 5.5% of years of life lost to cancer

And in fact prostate cancer has the lowest average years of life lost of all types of cancer (meaning that this cancer will shorten your life by the least of all other cancers)

In Canada 2001:
Breast Cancer: 334.5 Potential Year of Life Lost (PYLL)/ 100,000
Prostate Cancer: 56.6 PYLL / 100,000

Women get breast cancer WAY younger than men get prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer for the most part is VERY slow growing therefore if you get it you will probably die of something else before the prostate cancer kills you.

This is not the forum for this discussion but I had to correct this for fear of someone actually believing the above poster.

Pretty ignorant post. You did not contradict anything Alinabal said. Just because you are statistically older when you die of prostrate cancer does not make it less relevant. Research against all types of lethal cancers is worth to receive funding, it should not be one-sided, and that's all Alinabal said.

lets not derail this thread with bickering about which cancer is more deserving of funding. Losing someone you love to any form of cancer is a terrible thing.

The point of the thread was to bring to your attention that someone in our community is trying to do something to help cancer research and is asking us to help out if we can.

i Would donate for any kind of cancer No matter But Breast Mainly because My Mother , Aunt and grandmother have had it .
